Something Evil Comes in Our Midst |

Dark clouds en mass on the far shore, Very soon now we'll hear it roar. Unsettling in its bleak domain, Gathering speed, it is our bane. Something evil comes in our midst Its specter gives us frightful pause, Makes us think of a wicked Santa Claus, Who promised us peaceful nights of joy, Now we see it wants to destroy. Something evil comes in our midst. Winds grow stronger and gives us fear, It shrieks aloud and starts to jeer. Daylight turns into night so black, Lightning streaks and thunder cracks. Something evil comes in our midst. We hold our hands over our chests, We feel a great need to confess. We hear a worried vulture's hiss, We're all aware something's amiss. Something evil comes in our midst. We scream back at the storm so near, Someone even gave the Bronx Cheer. The world so black, it we could taste, Wondered if it was toxic waste. Something evil comes in our midst. A mighty roar came from the land, We weren't cowed, we made our stand. Our voices loud, we clenched our fists, And drove evil away from our midst. ~ Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. ~ |

Hi Jerry...enjoyed the form and rhythm of this....and the growing storm like quality of something dreaded. Wondering what it was...as I was sure it was the weather until it left so quickly at the end. Weather is like that. |

It could be a metaphor for many things, Martie. The weather, of course. Political even. Chasing the blues away, etc . . . Whatever you want it to be. ~ Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. ~ |

Where there's life there's hope. Where there's hope there's reason to fight back. Good one my friend a really good one. Eric two maggots were fighting in dead earnest! |

I appreciate it Faith, and am happy you enjoyed the poem. <><><> Eric, you are so right. Fighting for what you believe in, even if the odds are not in your favor, if the noble thing to do. Thanks. ~ Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. ~ |
