A Smile and A Song Well, if you ever heard Tom Petty Singin’ Louisiana Rain, The maybe you could imagine This hallowed highway of pain. I’ve taken the 10 from coast to coast – I’ve driven the midnight storm. Along the way I fell Stone in Love With but the song to keep me warm. And I stood facing the horizon, When the Tigers Broke Free – Was swallowed in the Sound of Silence As the breath escaped me. Still, Jim Croce says I Got a Name, So I continue on… It’s A Fine, Fine Day for a reunion, Then, like a Bat Out of Hell, I’ll be gone! With the vision of Mother – Father Fast fading in the rear view, I find I’m In the Mood for a melody, Still, I Wish it Would Rain, too. And I can count the Blessed Spirits Against my Brothers in Arms, But surge on, the Desperado, Never caring who it harms. So when I’m left with naught but Sorrow, When passing Time’s found me Marooned… On tomorrow’s folds I’ll dare to Dream On Through the song which I’m attuned. For I’ve seen Smoke on the Water… As well the fire in the sky. I’ve seen love come and I’ve seen love go, But, mostly, I’ve seen love die. And I know it’s More Than a Feeling – There’s just Something in the Air Tonight… Yeah, I can feel my Stairway to Heaven, But I’ve been Blinded By the Light. And maybe I was just Born to Run, Still, it’s not the reaper I fear. So I’ll leave you my smile on the Dust in the Wind, As I just disappear. Michael Anderson I could not love except where Death |

What a great mix for a road trip. (Something I've been longing to do, btw.) I think I'd like to get off I10, though, having done that route before. Something in me longs for a scenic route, and company that doesn't feel compelled to stop at every expletive Stuckey's along the way. grin--I'm sooooooo over the knick knack compulsion. Loved this--a soundtrack from Michael Anderson. *hugs* |

A smile and a song... You gave plenty of both with this. *S* I was humming along, taking my own journey down memory lane... glad I had more smiles than pain and wishing the same for you. *S* This is probably going to sound very silly, but thinking about these songs and others brought a jingle to mind... "the touch, the feel of cotton, the fabric of our lives"... It would be more appropriate if "cotton" could be replaced with "music"... Our lives have soundtracks and hearing a song often hurls us back in time. And I'm rambling. *G* What I meant to say and should have said is a lot more succinctly is... I love this!! *S* But... about those last 2 lines? *S* You do know we'll follow if you try... right? *S* ((((HUGS)))) |

Jwesley, when the mood’s right, there’s nothing like driving with a good compilation CD in the deck. JP, there’s many, many more I would loved to have included… Karen, yeah, I’ve done the coast to coast on the 10 three times now… and closer to 4 if you want to count that crazy bus trip… I honestly dreaded it the last time. One day though, I would like to do it not having to keep to a schedule. Then maybe, just maybe one could relax, enjoy the music, and truly see all that there is to see out there. Alison & Lori, I’m glad you enjoyed. K., no sequels today, but neither am I sneaking out that door any time soon. Ruth, I totally agree with you on music being the fabric of our lives. You should be in the commercial industry. … and good music always makes me smile. Ms E., I hope you are enjoying your trip… and I hope you have a good sound system as well. Kit, wow… it’s so nice to see you! I’m glad you dropped in. I hope you will be staying for awhile. Doc, lol… why do I have a clear picture in my head of you listening to the Butthole Surfers singing “Pepper” right now? Thank you all for the kind replies, Michael |
