The Conversations of Monet & Van Gogh

The conversations of Monet and Van Gogh,
I have invented in my head
arguments 'tween Spector and Wilson halo
over me tonight in my bed.

The thoughts I've traded like gold to you
I have held back silver and pearls
conquer nations in the name of loving you true
today your heart, tomorrow the world.

The conversations of Monet and Van Gogh,
I hear them curse too much
sentiments of the Duke playin' with Satchmo
like the memory of your touch.

You caught me standin' in the cold of your stoop
my surrender flags all unfurled
with some trepidations I remained so aloof
tomorrow a woman, today a girl.

Conversations of Monet and Van Gogh,
color alive in a frame
these paths I chose carefully I will follow,
haunted by the sound of your name
oooh it's all in my head...
but the consequences of being so alone,
I know I'll take with me to bed.

Conversations of Monet and Van Gogh
long after they have died
like the ghosts of lovers peaking in a window,
can't love ever be denied

And this love I am handing like flowers to you,
I'll try not to hold back anymore
I can be April rain that showers down on you
so your garden can grow a little more
yes, I'll show you what I got in store,
moonlight, webbing and pearls
the conversations of Monet and Van Gogh,
today your heart, tomorrow the world.
So put on your best smile today
baby get ready to go
'cause in shades of blue in my carousel soul,
I hope you'll give it a whirl.

"Negotiations & love songs are often mistaken for one and the same."--Paul Simon

The thoughts I've traded like gold to you
I have held back silver and pearls

today your heart, tomorrow the world.

Every so often someone writes something which is outside the room just a bit. This happens to be one of those poems.

"The Conversations of Monet & Van Gogh" give the reader a rare look inside a heart which is torn by desire and bound by love.

"You caught me standin' in the cold of your stoop
my surrender flags all unfurled" says everything that needs to be said. Uh, yeah, this is a keeper.

Thank you so much, Blues and Jerry. I have been writing A LOT lately but of all the things I have been writing this past week if not months, this is my favorite. It took me kinda be surprise and I can hear the music implied in it. Last night, I was writing while listening to Paul Simon's 'Rene and Georgette Magritte with Their Dog After The War' and in a certain mood, I kinda got inspired. Can't I ever have an original thought in my head??

Thanks again.
