Fair to middlin' of nowhere

I can’t help but see
the similarity
between the
life and times of Jesus
and the way things are
today with us
If we can stop and remember
the political climate
of His day
and how the
Church was State
and had its way
Religion ruled to exclusion
of them and those
unfit and unclean
Then along comes
this Nazarene
saying the church
is terribly mistaken
and that those
rejected souls
have not been forsaken
In fact he made it
quite clear
to the masses
that came to hear
That God was
all about love
and that He
had come to fulfill
God’s rules
And He thumbed His nose
at the status quo
and said this is the way to go
I’ll show you how
to know the love of God
and his peace
that you can share
with one other.

Today we have churches galore
each one being very sure
they have the right recipe
for salvation’s Christianity
The Government is
legislating morality
to take up the slack
and lead the attack
against modern
perceived  perversion
Christ’s message still
left to fulfill…
Love each other
inside and out.
Don’t hate…
let God sort’ em out

God is also a God of vengeance, and will smite thee down, or so it says somewhere. Still, there comes a time when a stand must be taken, to believe or not to believe. One thing is certain, religion can be something other than peaceful, there is a certain religion around who like to cut peoples heads off. Christianity had its own bloodied hands with the Crusades, etc., today it is another religion that is raising -- to be blunt -- hell.

yep...The funny part is we are always so sure we have God on our side.  Will we never learn? Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I often wonder who's side organizations and individuals would take if Jesus was here on earth at this moment...would they believe in Him or press for his crucifixion...James

I'm glad you read this and you were able to track my thinking. I wonder about that too.
Thanks for the input Michael.

Amen.

Indeed, we are repeating documented history.  As to James question, I have no faith in humanity.  I believe we would crucify Him all over again, which in effect, we are already doing in how we, (we being humanity), live.

Just my two cents.

Glad to see this post.

Brava, Lori! I love your deeper thoughts in this work. Religions and the fundamentalists in all of the religions are indeed a tremendous threat. They all speak of love as the number one rule and yet only a small number of believers live by that rule.

To live love like Jesus tought us (and other enlightened beings throughout the world) begins with each of us, trying and trying again to reach the ability to love unconditionally and to contribute to the peaceful co-existence of all of humanity, by applying justice to all of our actions.

It is a vast and complex matter! And we are slow in evolving, sadly.

Peace and love.
