Memories in the Air

I heard our song today floating on the air,
then a blend of past memories streamed by
with a scent of your voice and touch.

Not at all so faded
as I had presumed those memories to be.
For just a moment I held you in my thoughts.

Just for a moment,
then it slowly moved on
in this years autumn air.

Do we all have memories
moved about by the wind such as this;
everyone’s memories all mixed in?

And from time to time
We sense our own memories that return again and again,
and waft about like falling leaves.

They seem to appear from nowhere
and then disappear,
I guess, as memories do, as life is…

The wind passes by, steals our memories
and carries them across the sky.
Passing through branches of trees, waving as if to say goodbye…

Held-up memories swirling around and around.
Memories belonging now to the wind, and
we must relent – we must, or they will be taken by storm.

I don’t know why, or when but I know this windy air
has carried my memories around for a long time,
and those memories return from time to time.

Some fall to the ground and are covered by leaves
others fall into the sea, but most merely float away
to return again, and again…

Memories on the air, some bringing tears
or warming smiles, or quiet laughter and sheepish grins.
Forever there, and always stirred up by the wind…

Blaming it on the wind...what a wonderful concept and the poem you wrapped around it is great! I'll have to remember that

Subtle technique, JL, with the wind. Was the wind's  name Miriah? Nice work.

I would love this at any time... but having just had one of Dark's poems send a memory tumbling my way, each line means even more. *S*

I'm tucking this away in my library to enjoy again and again! *S*

Yea, it's something how a song can take you back to a time and place, conjuring up such vivid memories.

I enjoyed reading your poem, JL~  Very much!!!

I definately need to get outside more often.     This is beautiful and nostalgic.  I stand envious of the air around you.

JL...Great write my friend.

Beautifully seasonal. A creative blend of the season with feelings and memories. I like the softness I feel and hear in every verse. A poem I'd like to keep with me and cherish.
