Crows Weep crows weep I hear them cry as your love for me slowly dies they hang on the wind pretending to fly replaced by a breath that once was a sigh now broken echo lonesome winged sound in reply crows just weep I hear them cry (Hope you don't mind) helen "I wish that I was beautiful or you were half way blind" Harry Chapin |

Of course I didn't mind, although I think I'll go into the corner, hang my head, and cry you have made me look so bad. Just kidding. ~~ Those who are silent are the first to be shot. ~~ |

a Dark morning cawing sounds onset, against summer blue they land, ponderous, black heavyweights, feathered harbingers [of death] spearing tang open from green apples on young trees bending branches of limbs still thin enough that their tarsus wrap touching nail to nail the dwarf tree resembling a rookery, one soul miniature mockery of its cousins divebombing, his territory terrorized and conquered momentarily so I go to snapclap my hands, resembling buckshot sound advancing on the blackness they wing off only to perform highwire exploits, talking back all the while to the trespasser on two limbs who cannot fly snapclapping, echoes bouncing off doorways and back again, main and side streets empty as churchgoers still sleep, blankets gripped and pulled over tousled heads just black baggage of thievery and I they wing off but the miniatures stay behind, reclaiming, regrouping, swinging down on lighter fluff to bring their fledglings from the bushes to feed on fallen green apples ~*~ a good poem begets a tagger-on-ner |

JP, you seem to have inspired the masses. Well done on all counts here, helen & K included. Seeing as this is about crows, I'll join in just as soon as I figure out a rhyme for murder... and no, herder is not an option. Michael |

"a good poem / begets a tagger-on-ner" Well, that was one hell of a tagger-on-ner, Sunshine. If hell is not correct usage of the word here, I'm sorry. Seemed to work. I think you are correct, Michael, waiting on your inspirational murder piece. Thanks, Lori, it is appreciated. ~~ Those who are silent are the first to be shot. ~~ |

Well, I was really just joking JP... but I gave it a shot anyway. And no – I couldn't find a feasible rhyme for murder. …And they gather, up on the wire. My darkling clan – deepest desire. But sit I, in the willow tree… Where naught but shadow takes in me… Where, after carrion they tarry… While I watch in silence, wary, In dream that I could share their flight Somewhere beyond this lonely night. But still more come, to fly – to roost… Their blackness across the sky, loosed, Till when the night is nearly done, Naught remains but the murder of one. |

No, not at all, Jerry! I wrote mine years ago, you just made me REMEMBER it! I only brought mine in to share! Crows/Ravens/the black ones of flight oft'times bring to everyone's literary mind the name of Poe [my dog is named after him, by the way...] and if one loves to write, then one will eventually bring the harbinger of poetry into the mix.... so thank you for allowing us to be [re]inspired by YOU! Good job, Poet. |

Reverend Henry Ward Beecher once remarked that "If Men had wings and bore black feathers, few of them would be clever enough to be crows." Whenever I see them, I always watch to see what they are up to......*grin* course I love birds...... enjoyed your write |

Well, I started work this morning at dawn, (Installing solar panels), and when I climbed to the top of the ladder on the house I was working on; there sat at least 15 crows on the apex... The fact that there weren't there any yesterday gave me significant pause. The fact that I am writing this proves I survived the day... but not without some serious trepidation. Yes, I was spooked. I can't speak for K. & Helen, but I was seriously inspired by your poem, JP, especially with the added pic. I just didn’t really think my two cents would compliment yours at first... That feeling you spoke of that a poet gets when he knows his work will be misunderstood. Personally speaking, my vantage point on just about anything you could throw out there will probably seem somewhat jaded to most people. That I did post a little verse in reply doesn’t mean you could have done better… only that I wished to share my perspective… and that I felt comfortable enough with you as a friend to do it. It is a compliment that you moved others to write… you should view it as such. Michael |

if words could fly If words could take to the sky mine would never choose butterfly wings with never one particular destination. First up and then down and next blown to and thither by the whims of the breeze. Weighted down by cares and worries, mine would probably baby eaglets be screaming in protest each time they are de-nested. Clinging past the promise of outstretched wings never to realize the splendor of soaring purely for the sake of flight. But if words could fly then tell me why does even one poet remain grounded? Why do we not soar to our heart’s contentment coming to rest high in the trees looking down on those less worded than we? And if it might be so wonderful that words could fly then why still is there this distance between us? there have been many words between the birds and me......just sharing one with you |

luminosity, I love the gist of the poem . . . "But if words could fly then tell me why does even one poet remain grounded?" That just about says it all, huh? Thank you, Margherita. ~~ Those who are silent are the first to be shot. ~~ |

Jerry: You have truly gifted us... first with your wonderful presentation of poem and picture and then with the poems you inspired other poets to write or post! For me, when a poem inspires creativity in others, that's a mighty testament to the original poem and great compliment to the poet. What I strive to do with my words is to touch someone else and you definitely succeeded here... Beautiful work! |
