It comes not by invitation, nor when you are prepared with banquet spread. As a guest uninvited, it raps at your door. Creeping slowly or invading loudly, it has not one sole habit. Moody, unpredictable, but always bringing gifts. Oh, and the beauty of the gift it brings! Memories entwined with ribbons of grandeur. Skipping down lanes, riding bikes. Amusement park rides, girlish screams. Singing, dancing, laughing, Oh, the laugh which made your heart soar! The smile of his approval, the wink that spoke more than words ever could. The music he would sing. The smell of coffee brewing. Corny jokes. Giant hugs and little kisses he'd occasionally still allow you to place on his cheek when saying good-bye, Then he'd walk away quickly just so you wouldn't see him cry. Cry. Oh, these gifts are precious, but they come at a price. For this guest uninvited has done it again. Made me soar on memories sweet, but always brings me home to truth. Where he is no more, and I am alone with this guest so invasive. Alone with Grief. |

Oh, Shelerella, I ache for your pain, but know that Steaven is with you closer than you know embracing your every move and thought, and as your Guardian Angel, he will comfort your grief with the life he gave you. I feel almost guilty for the poem I am about to post, but I know you would not wish me to withhold my joy. Tears and hugs Owl |

In the early morning hours when I am alone with my thoughts, the smallest thing reminds me of his absence... this was written of course of my memories, but more with mom in mind who must ache for him so much these days. I just had to put it into words. Grief leaves as quickly as he comes as my busy life with 3 kids and all that implies. But he must linger much more in mom's... |

Wonderful words of someone dealing with being alone and the blues and grief which accompanying it. Dreams are a respite, but fleetingly, and much quickly departed. ~~ Those who are silent are the first to be shot. ~~ |

Dear Shelerella, this is poignantly beautiful. Your gratitude is deeply felt along with the unavoidable sadness. You will share these precious moments when memories flood you, with your children and they will love it. Thank you for being here. I miss Steaven very much. Love, Margherita |

Another glow of your beautiful generosity, thinking of the grief of your mom instead of your own, Shelerella. Owl [This message has been edited by OwlSA (09-29-2011 12:32 PM).] |

Dearest Owl, my mom and dad would have been married 40 years had he lived until February. I miss him more than I know how to convey, but mom has surely lost a part of her soul. For me, that's what makes it hurt more... Thank you for your considerate words, you truly are a loving spirit! |

Where he is no more, and I am alone with this guest so invasive. Alone with Grief. This is heartbreaking but also beautiful... much like the memories that peek through grief. We know you had a wonderful Dad... but you writing for your Mom like this proves they have a wonderful daughter. *S* |

Exquisite and powerful writing. The price is heavy, indeed, but well worth it in the end... at least in my opinion. Michael |

Thank you all for your lovely comments. We celebrate his birthday today in his absence, and though it started out emotional, we have done it up right, and he's proud, I'm sure! I'm so blessed. |

Man, you nailed this one. I just want to reach out through the screen and sit with you a bit so you can tell me about your Dad. I saw a small part of him - and really enjoyed the kindness that he shared with me in each comment he wrote. You did good on this poem. You moved me and shared a gift with all of us who choose to stop and read. My thoughts are wtih you. Alison |
