I grew tired of all this The way it was and what I'd let myself become I needed to change needed to care About my life about living it About not I was tired Of me being this way all of the time So I stood up I stood and I got on For me for the better So I could be more than I had been before I didn't step easily and not always faithfully As old habits have many lives Just more proof that it isn't always the first step that's hardest Sometimes it's the ones that follow The ones that carry you further and further away From your familiar old ruts and grooves But life goes on seasons change They begin and they even end Or at least they should So when I grew tired Tired enough to be different I was Perhaps not easily Perhaps not all at once but different all the same And soon it’ll almost be like a second nature to me To walk around my life looking for trees So I can turn over crisp new leaves "I'll tell you how the sun rose A ribbon at a time..." - Emily Dickinson |

it isn't always the first step that's hardest Sometimes it's the ones that follow The ones that carry you further and further away From your familiar old ruts and grooves Amen and AMEN! *S* I've taken those first steps so many times it sounds like mere foot tapping. *S* Good luck finding those trees! *S* |

Smiling... one step at a time, one day at a time. Our journeys are often uphill; and the optimism and determination in this is inspiring. |

. . . and viva la difference . . . I was going to highlight the first step line, but I see it has already been taken, so I will persevere sans that dynamite line. This life we live and the one we choose to change into is a slow metamorphosing kind of deal. To change suddenly is a shock to the system, much like going cold turkey from mainlining. Because this other life is all we know. By reading the poem I feel that you are more aware of these things than I, and that you have arrived at a better place and at your own pace. Congratulations! ~~ Those who are silent are the first to be shot. ~~ |

Superb (as usual)! Bravo! Aenea, I don't know how I missed this one earlier. No matter, I found it now. Are you really as young as you are in your icon photo (or whatever the correct term is)? Or is that just a symbolic photo and not you? Either way it is an absolutely delightful photo and SO you! Why I ask about your age (and I am not asking how old you are, as I know most people don't like divulging their age - although I don't think it would worry you) is that you seem far too young to have assimilated the amazing amount of wisdom you have - and very especially how much you have put it into practice. I am nearly 66 and I am learning so much from you - sometimes not so much the facts, but a way of putting them - for example that STUNNING reply to Jerry's poem called "Repairing the Damage." Owl |

Suthern - Thank you! Ya know, I don't mind a little tap dancing. So long as I don't stop moving forward...even if it's just by inches. Nicole - Thank you! I'm tying to see the good. And besides, climbing hills is an excellent way to firm you glutes and calves so I'll extra fabulous when I finally arrive. See - silver lining!! Lol! JerryPat2 - Thank so much! The way I figure it, is that I only get this one life. And if I don't take my time and figure it out. Figure myself out. And figure out what I want out of it - It'll be over. And I'll have missed the best and most important parts... Owl - Thank you very kindly indeed! Actually I think that photo is only about 2.5 years old... I'm 32, byt the way. Not as young as I used to be - but not as old as I hope to get. If I know anything at all, it's because I've had good teachers, hard lessons, and asked lots of questions. And faith. Faith can teach us so much about ourselves and the world around us...if we're patient and willing to learn. (Between you and me - sometimes patience isn't my strongest attribute) Lori - Thank you! Since everything changes, all the time. I just decided to watch, listen and report. J.L. - LOL!! Thank you! Kat - Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed my 2 cents worth Krawdad - Thank you! I figure, Autumn is just starting - and if the leaves can change...then so can I! Amaryllis - Thank you! It my favorite part too "I'll tell you how the sun rose A ribbon at a time..." - Emily Dickinson |
