Never Going To Say Goodbye

I'm sitting in the Kahala Mall
at Starbucks on a Saturday night
and from a distance
I'm watching a woman
sitting on a bench
in front of Whole Foods.
She is playing with her phone,
perhaps checking her messages,
perhaps texting her friends.
From the position I observe her
she looks so much like my sweetheart;
her hair, her physical characteristics,
the way she crosses her legs
back and forth, the way she
wiggles her toes so noticably.
For now, as long as I keep this distance
I can believe that it is she.
She turns towards me momentarily
but she is too far away to see
her face, her expressions, her lips.
I think of approaching her
and breaking the spell,
but right now I am missing
her too much and would rather
believe that she is as
close as this, so I will
remain sitting where I am
eating my oat cake and
sipping my coffee.

Profoundly beautiful, dear James! You have shared a special moment with us ... oat cake mmmmmm, how's that? Compensating, I guess!
You have reacted wisely.

Love,

The oat cake of Starbucks Honolulu is famous!!

Tomorrow I will buy the ingredients ... (I am on diet actually ... can still do it for others )

Excellent write of a little anticipation and desire.  Maybe you should call her James.
Recite this poem to her.

I like this very much... sometimes we need the fantasy too much to let reality intrude. *S*

Sometimes the fantasy that she is still close by will assuage some of the sadness of knowing a loved one may never return.

Enjoyed the read,

Thank you katahdin, jwesley, Margherita, JL Suthern, flash and ebonygirl for the wonderful responses...Margherita the oat cakes in Starbucks are the size of a small muffin and they are delicious, but I hope that they don't contain as much sweets as the recipe you found "Sandra's Oatcakes"...If I used that recipe I would use 100 percent whole grain flour, torbinado sugar, less sugar and honey and so forth as I value the oats for the soluable fiber but not too much sugar.   I like the oat bran muffins that I buy at the Saint-Germain Bakery...they are probably my favorites...they don't taste sweet at all...James
