Ode to into fall --conscious of winter- Sweet remembering, summer-spring past; By the grace of nymphs, in master paint Raising their canvas arms in circle dance, I am blessed ;---by trio, though subliminal Is their fond-embrace; in silent speak They word my thoughts as this; All seasons, love remains as impulse equal, And I need embrace what's come and past; (Impinge they this upon my pagan reason.) Liking all as change towards time of joy, The charities with me do share Their ritual of celebration, now in fall As if it nearing June, in middle-May. Blue/green, Zephyrus released his semen --puffing the belly of Chloris; Thus prepared she spreads the groundwith Leaves and fills the apron pocket-billow Full for lovely Flora; Who spreads the ground with leaf And flower children-sprouted From the west winds press of seed Though Hermes plucks some unripe fruit With no care that it rot when green. His orders are to take all underground, And so he comes as later frost this way, To fill his sworn to God's decree. It's fall , and Venus calls retreat. But oh-alas her son keeps strung his bow, Beneath a sun with froze-horizon stance; And even though All patrons left the warmer scene, Still lovers kiss-embrace In fired caves below. end The painting, by Sandro Botticellii: The three with raised arms are the "Three Graces" (charities) in Greek myth. On the right is Zephyrus (the west wind) having his way with Chloris, who is transforming into Flora. In the middle is Aphrodite (Venus) with her son Eros (Cupid) flying above her. On the left is Hermes, who was given orders to carry things that die into the underworld. |

To take a painting such as this and delve into it with verse and passion is a remarkable feat and one that gives new meaning to the painting itself. Maybe even old Botticellii would nod and agree with its depth and say to you, "Exactly! Exactly, my good man, you have read my mind." ~~ How come abbreviated is such a long word? ~~ |

I am rained out for the third day in a row.. Glad you are here to share what boredom, and desire has written. Thank you, Dear Magherita I thought you might know this painting..I have another poem based on the birth of Venus, by Botticelli. I love all his paintings, I bet you do to. Lori Thankyou for the review. I thought I should explain the figures in the painting. When I saw the painting in Google images, I went to the website that posted it..it explained every being in the painting. JP Good to see your name in my e-mail...glad you read the poem.Botticellis thoughts on the poem would be important, but not as important as yours..thank you |

Hmmm...so you've got Rayne now as your Muse, do you? I like what she's doing to your mood. Lovely work, Ford. More, please? |

Thank you, Karilea "Rayne" has dampened my spirits but my muse seems to like it, as she woke me early, and spoke to me in a strange language..She told me to seek art, and to copy the image in words..as you can see I picked up some of her language...wording the lines different than I would if the sun was shining. |

Ford, please forgive me for wishing for you just a few more days of rain - or even just one, if it is getting too much - if this is the effect it has on you. (Thank you, Ford's muse!) My first meeting with Botticelli's "Coming of Spring" was at a Living Art production at High School which was put on every year by the Art teacher - wait for her name - Mrs Ford! I didn't take Art as a subject (would have loved to, but would have failed the practical assignments and exams every time!), but Mrs Ford's yearly magnificent productions fuelled my passion for art. Thank you for taking me back to those days, Ford. You do memories (of your own and bringing back ours in the process) beyond superbly well. Owl |
