An Empty Place

After all these years of loving you
And living off the hope
I find that dream kept me going
And helped me to cope
I thought things would be all right
If I forgot the past
But it leaves an empty place in me
Where, that love was cast
I've always though I could turn loose
If and when I wanted to
But, guess I didn't realize
What a part of me, are you
I knew that I had changed a lot
But didn't know how much
I didn't know that place inside
Was, so tender to touch
You’re the best friend I ever had
I’m sure, that’s something you know
And to you, more, than anyone
I let the inside show
As I ease you from my mind
And from my heart and soul
I find that place, reserved for you
Is just a dark, deep hole
An empty place inside of me
That I must refill
I wish that I believed I could
And maybe, someday, will
In that empty place inside me
I stored my hopes and dreams
And as I watched you disappear
They faded too, it seems
Could it be, that false hope
Is much better than, none?
At least, when that space was filled
I longed to see the sun
As the darkness settles over me
And fills the empty void
I know freedom without you
Can never, be enjoyed.

Abe this is a very sad write.
Much insight to comprehend.

Kristofferson and Joplin both sang the truth of it - freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose.

There is another option - true hope, and working towards its reality.  Wishing for your happiness regained.

Touchingly beautiful write, dear Del!
