at the edge of the wildwoods wintry air bites that, then is the way that it is we who huddle for warmth on the edges of ourselves, steam rising from our mouths stars collapse upon us the night is tar-black and never ends we have brought this upon ourselves following a pied piper with songs of happily ever after as we reached our hands out accepting faux security too soon we began to understand the pitiful lucre barely kept us nourished but it was all we had jobs belonged only to the government the steadily, forever growing government and the pitiful lucre turned out to be Howdy-Doody money we aren't allowed to speak our thoughts spies everywhere even our children turn us in| if we speak against . . . them I ran across a strange thing today a book, a very old book hidden in the attic of a friend I'm confused by the first sentence of the book Who is John Galt? at the edge of the wildwoods wintry air bites that, then is the way that it is ©August 25, 2011 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~ I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me. ~ |

Jerry, you turn this first one way, then another, tinging acid humor with the slice of truths slowly learned... as has been said, "History teaches everything including the future." Lamartine So why don't we learn? Excellent penning, Sir. |

Thanks, my friend Sunshine. I just felt like speaking up. "Those who are silent are the first to be shot." That's a quote from someone, I think. P.S.: I just searched the quote and I can't find it, so I guess it is mine. Hah! ~ I like long walks, especially when they are taken by people who annoy me. ~ |

"jobs belonged only to the government the steadily, forever growing government and the pitiful lucre turned out to be Howdy-Doody money" Now that is a great write! I think you just said what a lot of people feel in their guts. So true, so true... JL Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |

Ayn Rand would have loved this poem as do I. |

Heavy stuff, JP. I am not a fan of Ayn Rand, in any way. But I am a fan of your poetry. I feel every word comes directly from your heart..and sometimes that heart is "heavy" |

I don't understand - You say you're no longer a participant here at PiP and yet you post your poems. What did I miss? |
