Second Chance

My Love slammed the door. It shut as a tomb,
like sound sucked empty from a symphony room
where no music played, where no feet light danced.
Gone was my Love, my last best chance.

300 feet per second is, I know, the speed of pain
as it travels thru the body on its way to the brain.
But a breaking heart is witness to a fear coming faster
when sorrow’s Beast of impact charges reinless, without master.

My breathing’s getting deep. I seem to need more breath.
I’m fighting back the tears where they exit from the jets.
I feel the quaking gallop of that Beast’s pounding beckon
leaping, lunging closer to me, 300 feet per second.

Then Bam! comes the “crash” and my tears gush forth
and they stream down rippling in a saline sad froth.
And my sorrow is a smash-up, a shattering of parts,
cracked pieces blown-off from my now broken heart.

I slump in non-recovery. There my energy dwindles longer
teetering on the drip drops of tears crying stronger
and dreading the coming moment I resign to my Fate
without hope of any time, without chance of any mate.

Then Abrupt! The door opens! My Love walks inside
and my heart sings a Mending-of-the-Tears lullaby.
And just when I thought “All” was lost or dead,
Love stands in my doorway, back with coffee and bread.

I love happy endings, dear Namyh. Yet I wonder, how long was Love gone? Long enough I see for the pain to manifest and the heart to break.

Love, bread and coffee make for a great celebration of the come-back!

The second chance inspired a very lovely poem!

Love,
Margherita

Margherita - There was a serious argument the night before. So when I awoke at the slamming of the door in the morning, I thought……well, that’s it. It’s all over. In the end, I only ended up faking myself out. Perhaps, that’s the bane of us all. We fake out ourselves and wonder what happened because we momentarily lose trust in a loved one who didn’t lose trust in us. It turned out good but taught me a lesson. And what kind of person would I be if I didn’t share that poetic agony and ecstasy with my fellow poets right here at the Passions where there is a sanctuary for happy endings. Whoa! Thanks Margherita for stopping by and enjoying. Namyh
P.S. – I wonder if I can get a grill cheese with that bread! LOL.

JamesM – If it puts a ‘nice’ in your day, I couldn’t ask for more. Thanks JM. Namyh

ebonygirl – Nothing swells the head of a poet than to be told that a poetic work was ‘LOved’. Now I definitely gotta get a bigger hat! LOL. Thanks for putting a little ‘love’ in the day Ms. E by enjoying. Namyh

mmmmmmm grill cheese and Love's bread ... sounds so temptating, dear Namyh!

The moments of forgiving are sweet and the lessons are precious!

Margherita – A long held family recipe states that whenever you take ‘moments of forgiveness’(1/2 cup) and ‘precious lessons learned’(3 ounces) stir then bake for 30 minutes, you get grill cheese on Love’s bread everytime. Any additional spices added is purely optional. Personally I like those sprinkles, especially the red ones! Happy you stopped by again for a bite which gives me a ‘second chance’ to say thanks M…….mmmmmmmm! Namyh

That short-lived agony may have been a blessing in disguise... now you know how much you don't want to lose what you have together! *S* Great write... I'm glad the ending was a happy one!!

You created a roller-coaster, very true to the roller-coaster of love and the swing of emotions.  I love this line so much:

quote:
300 feet per second is, I know, the speed of pain

Namyh, you are quite the poet.

Thank you.
Alison
