Unlimited

If my senses were restricted
And I was given a choice
If I could hear only one sound
I would ask to hear your voice

If my eyes opened to darkness
And I was robbed of most sight
If I could just gaze on your face
Everything would be all right

If my tongue were to lie useless
And my taste ceased to exist
I would still know the greatest feast
If my lips could taste your kiss

If the smell of summer roses
Could never be mine again
I’d remember times inhaling
Heaven’s scent upon your skin

If my senses were to fail me
Whatever the duration
If I felt your arms around me
There’d be no deprivation

"Unlimited" love and passion and beauty, dear Ruth! Now that's some statement that will resound eternally in the chest of the receiver!

Absolutely delightful and enjoyable.

Unlimited:
Limitless, unrestrained, infinite, unrestricted, boundless, and indefinite…
I had to look it up...

“If my senses were to fail me
Whatever the duration
If I felt your arms around me
There’d be no deprivation”

Wow, such devotion to another.
Sounds like love has conquered.
Whoever he is, he should see this.

Beautiful write!!

This is lovely.
One day in school this guy asked me to the effect that if I could see for five minutes what would I want to look at?  Sighted people often think we are “deprived” when we can’t see clouds, sunsets, colors, pretty girls, flowers, etc.  Just to be perverse, to humor him, I said I wanted to look at dirty pictures of naked women performing blank disgusting acts with animals blank blank blank etc.  That’s why they call it the “naked eye.”
Actually I don’t remember what I told him.  About every ten years or so I get accosted on the street by a Jehov’s Witness type who tells me that God can heal me so I won’t suffer “like that.” Whatever “like that” is.  Someone once said did I blame God for my “situation.”  Whatever my “situation” is.  What about your “situation?  What about everybody’s “situation?”  I never met a person, sighted or blind or deaf or whatever, who didn’t think life was a mouthful and moaning and complaining about how unfair the world is.
Life is full of wonder, ragged endings, and pains in the you-know-what.
Though I had normal hearing as a child, I went deaf quickly while I was in college and my life started falling apart.  Now I think I’m over it, but even now when someone wants me to listen to some beautiful song or music, I still stutter trying to tell them that, actually, I do not hear music, except in a rudimentary way; mostly it’s just raucous, nerve-jangling noise.
When I could hear, I didn’t know that I could write.  Now I’m mostly deaf, and yet we such wonderful tools for reading and writing that just did not exist in 1973.
Anyway this is probably above and beyond whatever you’d like to know so I shut up. now.

Ruth, this is a very beautiful love poem, and paints your kind, compassionate heart with the paintbrush of a very fine artist.

Hello darlin'.

And this is lovely--it's you.

It reads like it was written with a quill, and there's an elegant frailty of a victorian-style valentine to it.

Lovely. Just lovely. Just you.

wow...I am so far from remembering a passion as you have written that it seem a foreign language you write...sigh...but just as when you hear someone speak beautiful words in a language you do not understand but some thing tells you that what is being said is beautiful...well something inside me knows that your words...are beautiful......sigh
