Nothing Remained but A Choice

Armed with only a weapon
two gun Pete was starting
to think that this
could be the end.
He had already taken
a hit to the arm
and a hit to his leg
and as the blood oozed
from his body
his thoughts turned
to happier times;
like the time he
kissed his sweetheart
for the very first time
and the time he fired
his very first gun.
In a gunfight, losing focus
is normally not a good thing,
but in this situation it
mattered not, for two gun Pete
only had moments to live,
and he wanted the pleasure
of his last thoughts
to take away the pain
of his wounds
and the reality that
the best parts of his life
were now over,
and nothing remained
between him and death
but the choices of
a frown or a smile.

I think even more important ... do we live our lives with a frown or a smile...I choose to smile more times than not.

Cool Write...

Dear James, I enjoyed your poetic rendering of this story and indeed that final choice was a good one.

And yes we always have the choice to change our lives for the best.

Love,
Margherita
