the years like a hanging icicle falls from the roof’s eve to stab you into tomorrow and tomorrow never stands still but becomes the today of all of your tomorrows as the years begin to age us we begin to deem we have become wise merely because we have outlived most of our graduating class the younger generation don’t know how to pour piss out of a boot our attitude ah, the lies we tell ourselves are progressively worse the older we get my generation heralded rock ‘n roll into the world an accomplishment maybe our parents thought it dangerous to scream and rant to the devil’s music as I listen to the teen idols of today I am appalled appalled, I’m saying until I stop shake my head and grin remembering Black Sabbath screaming at high volume in my sixties’ style pad in the seventies Ozzy went on to become a caricature of what he used to be Alice Cooper had a place full of nightmares so here I am trying to be above it all trying to dig the new crop of shock bands trying to not be grandfatherly but hip, don’t cha know, dude, dudette ain’t working my trash in my time was better’n today’s trash in their time psst! remember me saying up there somewhere about the lies we tell ourselves are progressively worse the older we get I think maybe I’ve proven my point ~ I knew drugs weren't the answer. I just had to find out for myself. ~ |

Everything is true here in this poem, JP I think the first stanza could stand alone as a complete poem...though the rest explains what that stanza means.. Good work, and thought provoking |

Appreciate your comments, Ice. Funny that you said the first stanza could stand alone. After I wrote it I almost stopped then and there. But in my mind I had other things to say, so . . . I kept writing. ~ Man who stands on toilet is high on pot. ~ |

I think we have to think we're wiser since we're not stronger or faster or leaner or handsomer or prettier or... Ida |
