Ghost I wake alone and wrenched with sweat, it seems most every night. In dream I sit by my headstone, with eyes vacant of sight. A dead man’s clone, hands clenched, I let the rose fall to the grave. There, seem to bit by bit bemoan a man I could not save. Plot untended, grass grown awry, I know no one goes there… Grasping what seems intended by this state of disrepair. Where, befriended by darkness I have but delayed its prize… Devoid of dreams, hopes rescinded – a life effaced by lies. Tragic ending my beginning, I read the epitaph. The pressures of silence rending my heart until I laugh. My mind wending, sifting, pinning points along the path; Ill-fated love and loss lending grief to the aftermath. I walk away, skies overcast, having no place to go. A bell tolls and something fey walks along side I know. In hues of gray, grimly amassed, and tinged with shades of sorrow… 'Recount the souls of yesterday in the storms of tomorrow. And without end I ride this wave, my own hell in the making; With naught to hold the thoughts unpenned in my riddled head, shaking. My only friend, beyond the grave, could I’ve changed this? I wonder… By breath blown cold into the wind, given this spell I’m under? A subtle groan, a listless hope, I pass it with the others. My soul to keep, I must atone for sins against my brothers. A penny thrown, a dangling rope; grasped with both hands and yet Each night 'find sleep, cold and alone, but wake up wrenched with sweat. Michael Anderson Like one that on a lonesome road Doth walk in fear and dread, And having once turned round walks on, And turns no more his head... Even Ebenezer had time to change the dismal future he saw... the bells that toll a death in dreams may yet peal the promise of a new day. *S* From first word to last, I was gripped by every line!! |

Fine writing. Very true about sleepless nights and the ghost within. "The secret behind survival of mankind is kindness and love within our hearts" |

Ruth, I could stand to learn a thing or three from ol' Ebenezer I bet. katahdin, Lori, I'm glad you enjoyed. Prasad, Indeed, we haunt ourselves without realizing it sometimes. ebonygirl quote:It was kind of a trick question now that I think about it. If the answer is no, there is only despair. If the answer is yes, then there is regret. Sucks to be me, I guess. Thank you for the encouragement, even so. Michael |
