Anyone who wasn't a kid (like I was) or a teenager, growing up in the 1980s probably won't get this one as much as us, nor get why the '80s rocked, in it's own weird way. -------- Back 2 The '80s Oh youth and beauty, rock on I'm gonna dance around with my socks on to a mixtape of my favorite U2 songs and I'll be in the remembrance of the things I left behind me, in my childhood schemes, back in the '80s Trying to solve this rubix cube I'm lit by the light of the Zenith TV tube there are Saturday morning cartoons I thought I lost in the debris of the things I left behind me in my boyhood dreams back in the '80s Oh tonight I wanna go down with Doc Brown in a time machine back to the '80s and tonight I wanna hear some Tears For Fears in my boom box back in the '80s don't give me no trouble from the man 'cause all I wanna do is dance dance dance just give me a chance Oh when I was still a boy I played in the dirt with my toys turn to MTV and make some noise and all I want is to Wang Chung tonight set my feet alight in the misty past of life way back in 1985 And tonight I wanna feel cooler just like Ferris Bueller my memory flies back to the '80s and tonight I want a fix myself back to '86 or any year of my youth in the '80s don't remind me that I've grown older now all I wanna be is younger younger younger I can feel the hunger Oh youth and simplicity rock on dance with me through sprinklers on summer lawns and I wanna get lost in the things I left behind me back in the '80s and tonight, say you wanna go with me back to the '80s No we don't need no Delorean just a little imagination remember back when we were young and everything was right do you still remember how to Wang Chung and have a little fun tonight? C'mon baby I'm going back to the '80s back to the '80s "Don't mistake paradise for a pair of long legs." -Watts, Some Kind of Wonderful |

Cool ... I remember the 80s ... that was way back in I think, my 4th childhood, if I'm not mistaken ... I won't admit to any more after that though The only difference between men and boys, is the size of his birthday cake and the number of Guinness it takes to wash it down enjoyed the memories |

Ha! Oh yes, this poem encompasses Amaryllis. I spent my glory days in the 80`s, the entire decade... from 10 to 20! Perfect. Completely relate to the whole piece...it made me smile. I want to go pull on my Jordache jeans, crimp my hair and spray some `Love`s Baby Soft` on my Guess sweatshirt! Lol The only thing is, the title...back then, we`d never use numeric `text-speak` shortcuts (i.e. `Back `2` the 80`s`)...we hadn`t even conceived of cell phones and texting! Lol Remember streeeetching the phone cord, all the way to the stairwell or the closet, trying to have a `private` conversation?! My, how far we`ve come. Great stuff! Amaryllis |

P.S: You know you`re getting old when your kids start wearing some of the styles you wore, because they`re coming `back in`..!! My daughter loves 80`s influenced style. I hear the rule is, though...if you wore it the first time around, you`re too old to wear it the second! Don`t do it. LOL!! |

That was a nice tribute to the 80's, Soul Drifter. Who's to say that their own golden young adult years are any better or worse than someone else's. It is what you make of it. The songs you mentioned brought memories of when I was DJ'ing. Jeff |

The 80's weren't my favorite but I still remember them and those before. I think we always think of our teenage and young adult years as the best of times... M |

I was born in 69 and somehow loved the 70s more than the 80s. Most of the 80s was a blur to me awesome writing! thanks for the memories |

at the comments...and imagining what you must think, bringing in all of us "old folk", SD...but this is great, for every generation must have their compass, and while mine encompasses yours by another 30 years, I so appreciate the tribute so that I can think again of my children, as their own children are now having my great! grandchildren! I loved it, and thank you!! |
