Pieces I fall to pieces bit by bit – a little more each day. All put together they won’t fit the original way. This place, it chips away at you - it turns you inside out. Denial overwrites what’s true and fills your mind with doubt. Where survival, itself, might deign identity be lost, For in the end the strongest reign, and the weak pay the cost. Though times I sit alone and pray a remnant might be saved – Some faded glimpse of yesterday upon the heart engraved. But it’s hard holding integrity when life’s torn in a blink. Still, giving in to self-pity, you lose more than you think. With time slipping through your fingers panic rise to the fore, But the indecision lingers till the hope is held no more. One day you just walk slower, another you just try less. Yet it’s always a bit more than you’re willing to confess. Until you look back wondering just who you were before, And see the man who would be king in pieces on the floor. The mirror doesn’t hold your gaze, but an image long dead Unto the million different ways you right wrongs in your head. Broken views of a broken mind, beneath a placid face, That never cease to twist and bind and beleaguer the space. This toast I give to passing thought: May it readily dissolve, (In eulogy of life in rot), the last of my resolve. All sanity brought to the brink where reality ceases, And no one ever stops to think of picking up the pieces. [This message has been edited by Michael (07-12-2011 02:38 PM).] |

The "pieces" inspired a great piece of poetry I would say, dear Michael. Change is a constant in life and sometimes we fail to see our wholeness throughout the events that bring suffering. You express this with great skill. You may put together the pieces and discover a new you and love yourself, this is in your power. Look for a long while into the mirror and see the divine spark within your eyes. Love, Margherita |

This is hard-nosed and a tough write. I've been down that "Pieces" road, my friend. There are many pieces to that road and to reassemble it takes time and patience. "giving in to self-pity, you lose more than you think." . AMEN! ~ Employ teenagers while they know everything. ~ |

Hi Dixie... I'm not really "SO" sad, my muse just chooses to play out the drama in everything. Margherita, thank you for the warm reply. I do believe I know which direction I need to be looking finally... up! JerryPat2, I have to learn to be patient and accept one piece at a time me thinks. Thanks for the kind words, friend. |

I couldn't believe my eyes! A poem from you is a special treat. How many times have some of us been "there," and never thought to pick up the pieces? How true to life this is Michael. Great reading you. |

Mysteria, Thank you for you kind words. You really do me too much honor though. Nan, Indeed, there is no better place I could imagine to start picking up the pieces again... and no better friends. Michael |

I can't even remember when I had/took the time to treat myself with the chance to read a few poems... but boy, oh boy... I hit an out-of-the-park grand slam with my the first I chose! LOL I can identify with the somber tone... but mainly... I'm just relishing the sheer perfection of your words. It's been too long, Michael... but it was certainly worth the wait! |
