For the first time today
I realized I never loved you
I thought I did in my mind
but my mind played a trick on me

I wrote you all those months
while you were in jail
I never thought of you
as more than a friend
I grew up with

When we started courting
I could never say those 3 words
I love you
You said it all the time
but I never felt comfortable with it

Maybe at the time I just was not ready
Maybe I was still in the bloom of youth
and wanted to see what other options
were out their for me besides you
or maybe I was just too scared to commit

I was only 23 at the time we courted
I was so naive back in those days
I could not see you were out to hurt me
I didn't even notice then I didn't even love you
Which made it hurt when I had to break it off

But now, 7 years later , I came
to this realization of not loving you
and now it feels as if a weight
has finally been lifted off my shoulders
I can finally move on with my life
without all that past pain coming back to bite

ms DA...I have watched this topic from both sides of the glass (or bars) and it is interesting how the love or craving of freedom causes one to believe they love one/those that is/are free. Enjoyed your vision here.

Love. The most confounded emotion known to man. Everyone thinks they have to fall in love and so they lie to themselves. It seems in your case you didn't exactly lie, you merely went along to get along.
