This is a heartbreakingly beautiful tribute. I choose not to remember how it was when people I love were taken off life support. I too, made the decision to not live, artificially- if it ever comes to that. She sounds like a wonderful person, your wife.

Oh, Jerry, I ache for your pain, but applaud you for your bravery, and through you, your wife for her bravery too. Time doesn’t heal, I know. As you say (and I make a point of not saying "however"), she is now free, and flying in the light, and your guardian angel.

Thanks everyone, Trina, Owl and DS.

My wife had been kept alive for two weeks. I felt I had to give her time to come out of it and back to me. I only regret I didn't set her free earlier. I can only hope she didn't suffer, but I will, of course, never know.

Understanding this Jerry Pat, we need to be brave and kind enough to release those we love and focus on them not our own feelings of wanting to keep them with us. That would be selfish indeed. You did the right thing and your memories will be brighter for having done it. I was with my mom,with my dad and with my husband when they went to a better place and I really feel that knowing they are free of pain is what helps us to go on. latearrival

Jerry...this takes me to the night when the doctor's started Michelle's heart back to beating two times...the third time I told them not to do it again. A very hard thing to do, but in the end, the most loving. Thanks for sharing this.

I know what you mean, as the familiarity of what she was really was about becomes helpless to continue. The end is so damn final. Not fair most times.
