it was spring our hearts burning with love windswept desire thunderous passion our arms reaching into forevermore and then . . . deceptive lightning blazed a course of deceits and lies trivial at first a germ of deception on many fronts infection set in a pox on our house slept with eyes open trust gone love collapsed into and upon itself we never understood how angry we were until the shouting began the crying shattering of thrown things crying you tried to cut me once I stopped you we hugged we made lust looking for the sun to send shafts of light back into our souls we hung on didn't want it to end closed our eyes to everything far too long after awhile I snorted began to wonder about transmigrating still, our arms reached out again searching for lost passion we'd lost the map anyway our thoughts too dark to see what was right in front of us finally tearfully with shame and regret kicking in we understood we didn't matter it was the "we" part we'd failed to see I'm here on the banks of the bayou watching my reflection staring back at me trying in my own way to come to an understanding of love I've grown to hate the word my reflection nods in agreement When early morning quietness seeps into my being it's like I'm being hugged by everything good in the world.August 16, 2010 |

Oh Jerry how can you hate love? The lack there of okay, that I can see... but love itself? Even if we are scared to death of it from being hurt and abused, even if we are tired of searching and have given up on it...how can you hate it? It has brought you joy and contentment has it not? Lori |

This is a poem, Lori. I take liberties with poems, as do most poets. There is a lot of truth in my poems, but some of it is out and out fabrication. Of course I do not hate love. Besides I never said I hated love, only that I hate the word love. You skipped right over that. I do, however, hate what it does to people. People get killed in the name of love. People do awful thing in its name. Now I know the argument is that it wasn't love that committed these atrocities, but the lack of love. I tend to disagree somewhat. Some people, male and female, love so strongly that when bad things happen within the structure of their perceived love they rise up and try to destroy the very thing they love. The old saying, "I can't live without you" syndrome. Born Free........Taxed to Death |

Now I understand completely. Like some people are so insecure they test their lover to reassure themselves and ultimately lose them to the chaos they cause. Love can make people do crazy things, that is for sure. Lori |

Yes indeed, Lori. The passion that love brings out in humans can turn around and be the exact opposite on any given day. I firmly believe that. The reason? Greed in the form of smothering, and it happens to both genders. Born Free........Taxed to Death |

I remember when my first girlfriend that I loved so dearly broke up with me I thought it was the end of the world. I was actually in a daze for days and everytime the phone would ring my heart would leap and I thought it might be her calling to get back together. I was so so young and had so much to learn but my mind and body wasn't ready for the education right then. Yesiree! Love can eventually make you hate and that's always been strange and unexplainable. Good write Jerry I really enjoyed it. Eric ain't doin nothin at all just answerin the call |

Thank you Eric. I quite understand what you are saying, I suppose we all go through it. Especially when we are so young we don't know how to cope with being discarded so easily. Even into adulthood the love sometimes produces more pain and misery than the initial first few days/weeks/months or years. Born Free........Taxed to Death |

Let's not forget those deja vu moments when past experiences trigger fears, and reactions that have nothing to do with the one you are with... |

Sure, Lori, we carry our scars of love's battle into the next one. Sometime the poor guy/girl doesn't know what hit them when we jump into their case. It can be as simple as using an expression favored by one of our ex's who we hate by now. So I agree, we carry a lot of ammunition for the next battle. Too sad. Too true. A sad poem whether based on a true experience or not but this "it was the "we" part we'd failed to see" the cause of so much friction in all relationships. So many "I's" in the world that that the "we's" don't stand a chance. |

This is a very well rendered "love" story, dear Jerry, and I fear too many can relate! True love indeed is based on "we" as one. Love, Margherita |
