The Gathering ~*~ Gold dust a’rising Summer sun has done its work Heavy is the gold ~*~ Blue skies have gone wild Farmers make coin in moments Beat hail, beat hail blue ~*~ Breasts and chests are full When dust rises so do storms No one fills their lungs ~*~ Surrounding crops failed East, west, but here, now for us Gold dust a’rising Shaft is being gathered now Church will see a farmer’s tithe ~*~ © KRJ 6-15-11 8:44 "The business of the poet...is to show the sorriness underlying the grandest things and the grandeur underlying the sorriest things." The structure of the farm community and those who rely on them to survive. I remember where I was raised it was cotton in those days. Everything around, including stores and shops depended on a good cotton yield because the money was filtered throughout the community. Then the government came in and shut down the cotton and started paying farmers to grow soybean. Nice poem. ~ Those are my principles, and if you don't like them ... well, I have others. ~ |

I am assuming that it is winter wheat, that is the harvest..Your poem is a reminder to me of one of my own, Karilea. I love how you have brought together all of the elements of civilization into such small groups of words.. Farming is a cultural imperative, without it we are not civilized...that is, in the sense of human community. This poem is an ancient song, one that has been sung by few, but heard by many, in its refrains. Only those that can hear the dull vibrations that roots make, as stomata divides beneath the earths surface, can really understand that dirge. Sorry, I went nuts with this reply. |

Thank you for your comments on my "Harvest" poem, Karilea...but I do like this as much as my own..it is short and complete, with very few words...but it says what would take reams to explain. Fine work, indeed..love it. Come read to me some poem, |

Very beautifully expressed, dear Karilea. I do love the imagery and the sacredness in this human dependance from the Earth that you evoked with your words. Love, Margherita |

You cultivate the words to sow the harvest of your verse to blossom with the reader. Blessings. |

Sissie...I understand this gathering of earth gold now that I live so close to agriculture. Oh, how I wish you could visit me here for a duet! Love the thoughtfulness that came with your words. |
