Pasta Puttanesca While I watched my beloved American Idol I was thinking of Rachael Ray And how she could take the odds and ends from my frig That languish on the door on display I thought of changing the channel From songs filled with longing and fear And tune into a show with more grit and substance Like “Cooking with Heart and No Fear” I clicked on my dear friend, the computer And Googled with joy and some glee I found a recipe I could create and conquer (it even came with some history) Pasta Puttanesca touched my heart and my taste buds Anchovies sizzled with garlic and capers in oil I tossed spices with wild abandon (When cooking with Anchovies, there is not much one can spoil!) Pasta Puttanesca has a story behind it Of women in bordellos with windows flung wide Bowls of fragrant pasta perched on the sill To entice men with money inside I sat down to watch American Idol Sensuous aroma wafted to my nose from my dish Ah, if I were only a woman of the evening Pasta Puttanesca would help me grow rich - Alison |

That sound like a good ploy to get the one's with money in their pants beside . . . er . . . Never mind. Also the gentleman(?) could have two of his wants satisfied all at the same place. Nice advertising. Park Avenue could take the hint. Oh, they already have. Sex sells everything. Everything. ~ I went to a restaurant that serves "breakfast at any time" / I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance ~ |

Dear Alison, thank you for this cute and tasty poem about Pasta Puttanesca. It brought smiles, you are such a delightful and eclectic writer. There are several versions of its origin, but this is the most colorful I would say. I like this kind of pasta very much, but if I choose to bring it on the table, I leave out the anchovies, or at least I only add one, there must be just a hint of it and it has to be fully dissolved ... this is one of the v. best things I EVER read! v. serious and long-sustained applause for this thoroughly enjoyable 'write' !! LOVE that line: “Cooking with Heart and No Fear” [that's almost as grand as: "Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!"] |

JP ~ Sometimes food is the sexiest thing ~ taste, texture, melding of bodies of spices. Advertising be damned, I just fall into the pleasure of it all. Alison - LGB, Thank you. Me too and guess what I am making tonight? A - Jimmy, I love anchovies. Thank you, dear friend. Alison - Hi Margherita, Thank you for the lovely compliments about my poetry. You make my day so often. I had this dish at a small Italian restaurant when I was on vacation. It was on the special board for the night, but I had already ordered when I saw it. The cook made it just for me before I returned to Alaska. He didn't tell me about the origin of Pasta Puttanesca, just that I could find the recipe on the internet and it was easy. Okay, I smiled at the word "easy" just now. I read this one story and was charmed. I wasn't convinced it was a true story, but what a story it is! I just can't remember any history like this with an American dish. I could maybe start one with Macaronni and Cheese. Maybe. I love anchovies so I put a small tin of them in with the garlic and capers. Yep, they dissolved and I no one who helped me eat it work that day noticed the anchovies (even the self-professed anchovy haters). I think the flavors meld beautifully. So, guess what I am making for dinner tonight? But, this time I am not sharing the left-overs. It is too good the next day. Love you and your wonderful comments. Alison - Thank you, Bruce. You made me smile - I do hate lumpy oatmeal. xoxoxo Alison - Yann, thank you. Your comments are always as good as ay poetry that I share here. Xoxoxo Alison - Come eat and laugh with me, Ida. Love, Alison |
