she remembers how playful was
when it was the tail on a puppy end
being chased like there were two in one

and the prairie grass afternoons too
getting lost in the invisible for hours
til the smell of chicken made her tall again

she remembers dad and his shovel tool
how it put old dogs under the ground
and left her empty in her heart bottom

she has been there on occasional days
to bury her two husbands and her only son
from the viet nam empty place sixties

says she has kept some earth for her soul
since she hopes to follow them soon
but for now she is at the county pound

just to find a few last days of playful

I can't find a favorit part, but I don't want to leave any part behind either.  What a woman!  I want to grow up just like her someday.

I have read this already several times and it makes me want to reach out to hug this woman, to look into her eyes, where her long life story reflects, maybe to caress her wrinkled cheeks and to share some of those last days of playful.

A masterful piece of poetry that settles in  the "heart bottom".

Love,
Margherita

Fine writing, Dark. The imagery clearly registers in the mind.

"and the prairie grass afternoons too
getting lost in the invisible for hours
til the smell of chicken made her tall again." Very much what they do.

Dark...Sometimes you see right through, into the places kept for special, with much respect.  Thanks for this one.
