Before balefire on altar green, strewn with herbs and flowers of first buds seen, as incense of rose and jasmine weave in braids to mate with fire's musk, wearing malachite, quartz and tourmaline, unbind your heart's vast energies to stack tied sheaves and blessing woods before the break of dusk. As you stare into fair spiral drawn and tended through night's call to Pleiades rising ‘fore the dawn, fires circled thrice in sun-wise dance, then thrice more ‘round and ‘round again that thoughts may heal and purify, burn away whatever Winter shades embargo dreams; keep pace sure footed on life' path between these Beltane fires' fold. With shining offerings and soft wakenings, third turn of sacred ritual brings remembrances of Beli Bright when Wild Huntsman battled Silver Hand for rights to blossomed Mother Earth, so bone weary Winter's disheartened blues, washed in Spring waters of delight, may be burnished in Summer's gold sunrise. In morning after ritual drumming heartbeat's call, sing out to skip ‘round fresh Maypole like lightening rods connecting worlds entranced, bending hopes in ribbons to entwine by joyful dance, dip and weave Sun's new release from Winter's yoke; let full-throated song enfold you, shield you from Epona's white horse passing that she not lure you through forever with Sprites and Wites and Faeries all full of wakened mischief's call and promises soft threaded in chiming bells ringing from your soul. ©2011 by icebox [This message has been edited by icebox (04-28-2011 07:24 AM).] |

Love it, Charly. It's been a while since you gifted us with so many words all together but it's been worthwhile waiting. ![]() Helen |

Exquisite, magical blend of Wiccan ways, mythology and sheer (in its most intense context) beauty, Charly. I had to look up several things, and learned a lot - but will go back to reading it up when I have more time (should that ever occur - haha!), but when I learned of who Epona was (a protector of horses, donkeys and mules), I loved this all the more. I just love you so much. ![]() And I guess you knew I had to observe the day... wineless, at that! *chuckle* Ah, but I've had my fair share of whine...if I don't cut that out I might find myself living the life of a terrier. ![]() ![]() |

I find myself in the middle of a battle between winter and spring when I read this poem.. I also find myself thinking of Alfred Noyes, and his "Highwayman", a poem I like very much. Though yours is more complicated than his, I feel a similarity in fine structuring, and topic. enjoyed |

On reading the two poems from Icebox, on Imbloc-- Our in house seanchaí, bearer of Celtic, poetic tales I remembered something from nearly a decade ago Being of Pegan Scotch/Irish heritage I suppose has something to do with my interest in these stories from "lore bearers", as I.B. most certainly is. I dug this poem up from the tombs, where it is buried But still very much alive.. To hail, and honor the seanchaí of pip. |
