Crystal Vase walking down the street, window shopping, he stopped by an antique store where displayed in the window was an old, hand-cut crystal vase with intricate patters - not perfect, but revealing a character, a soul of an artisan long gone it seemed as if the vase was beckoning, an envoy from a bygone era, from a time now forgotten, irretrievably lost... and he stood there, unmoving, fingers pressed against the clear, solid, impassable pane, a sealed window to the past -- then he noticed his own faint reflection looking back -- and a strange, cold shiver ran through him. Interesting, dark, and mysterious. Put all three of those words together and they spell "Crystal Vase." I thoroughly liked this poem. Different. Stylish. Grabber. ~ Don't insult the alligator till after you cross the river. ~ |

Intriguing and much enjoyed, CastleGuard, but I would have liked at least an intimation as to why his own reflection caused him to shiver - or a hint that there would be a sequel to this poem (hint, hint LOL). Owl |

Thank you everyone for reading and commenting. Owl – as in any poem, the interpretation is left up to the reader, based on his/her experiences. However, my intent: The Face of our own mortality may present itself in many forms and under any circumstances. He sees as he “may” one day be looking back from the “other side”, whatever realm that may be. Thank you again for stopping by and your reflective comments. CG |

Wow, I love crystal vases and I am so happy I found this poem. I love it, it is extremely well built and captivating. The transparency of crystal is a wonderful way to SEE more or to REFLECT oneself, even if here it was the window glass reflecting. Whatever the interpretation, you have done a great job! Love, Margherita |
