“The Quiet Hours“ In the quiet hours before dawn when the conscious is tamed we relinquish ourselves to the vulnerability of deepest slumber where the subconscious on its throne reigns; automatism at its highest power, sometimes a mighty adversary sometimes a comforting friend. Suppressed memories resurface, conflicts left unresolved battle, unrequited dreams are fulfilled. Fast playing minutes governed by the quiet hours' playwright. Sometimes hope is given, or we're tortured with despair. Scripts are played out by familiar and unfamiliar faces often masquerading as others. There's terror to be lived out or tranquility may wrap us in a lullaby. Frustration, horror, hope, longings all mixed together in settings of our inner most truth, a blazing Technicolor parade of all we can't or won't acknowledge in wakefulness subconsciously orchestrating our wakeful hours. |

I've been here. But, as an excuse, I have help! I have two "pups" as I refer to my nearly three-yr-old Shih Tzus, and lovely and endearing as they are, they are habitual for the most part in waking Mom up for the nocturnal walk around the back yard... and from that 1 or 2 a.m. waking, I'm pretty much done with this poem, until I fall back into that 3 or 4 a.m. slumber when the dreams and mists hit with such reality that it's as if I didn't get any more sleep at all! Yep...this one has my name on it...and I wasn't named Sunshine for nuttin'! ![]() Good stuff, Marcia! |

I have never seen it described better. We all have those "quiet hours", where the gates of the subconcious swing open wide and the ghosts of the past take center stage once again, as we lay, helpless to stop them, a captive audience to their whims. I enjoy those hours.....and I enjoy your portrayal of them. ![]() |
