Strutting down the street her feet encased in Prada grey suede striped detail pumps Her Italian leather bag clutched in one hand Starbucks' Mocha latte in the other She passes a tearful woman huddled In the doorway of the building Next to her office never thinking How the woman could eat for the day On what she paid for her usual Morning pick me up beverage. Meanwhile, overhead a corporate jet Flies over a quickly filling tent city Its occupants not knowing or caring That some of their laid-off employees Are below stretching canvas to provide Shelter for their children who are Now homeless and finally realizing What the word foreclosure really means. She'll stop on her way home for a Drink with the girls, end up having three. The execs in the corporate jet will Be sipping Grey Goose vodka While wondering who'll be laid off next. Children in the tent city will go to sleep hungry. In a blink Prada and Grey Goose Will be stretching canvas next to the children All the while wondering what in The hell happened, while Starbucks Goes belly up. © Marcia Miller-Twiford [This message has been edited by Word Weaver (03-08-2011 09:46 PM).] |

In a blink, indeed. A friend and I were lunching today at a "dive", as we refer to it...north end, rednecks, cowboys and entrepreneurs who mix and mingle... and the "in a blink" subject came up of many lives who have been changed recently, by accident, monetary or other mis-fortunes, and it doesn't really matter, then, whether you are Grey Goose, Prada, or boxed wine and Woolworth... life will happen, and to those to whom we were referring? Their lives are only important to those that love them. Thank you! |

I've seen it happen to several families. Not necessarily relegated to a tent city but losing their homes, jobs, way of life. And you're right, few if any care until it hits home. No pun intended. *S* |

I'm not quite in this particular situation, but I'm hoping that once I'm out of it, once life improves, I can remember this place and be a little more sensitive to others. |

A well captured image of the impermanence of everything. The materialistic mentality will lead us nowhere in constructing a more balanced society where everyone can lead a dignified life. Such dramatic changes may induce to ponder! Love, Margherita |
