After the Dog Watch As the moon dips her skirts at the end of the world The sky lightens in the heavens The sun arises dripping with blood And the barren mountains are gleaming The sands on the shore turn to burnished gold Whilst the mist on sea is still steaming A mirage of the breakers seem to be A tsunami in the making Our bows part the sea of blues and greens Eight bells of the watch are now ringing It's the end of the dog watch The magic, the loneliest of hours When the heavens were full of silence And a seaman's heart was singing. |

Thanks Islander, the dog watch is the midnight till four watch on a ship, it's the most quiet, but tiresome watch of the night, but in the tropics the most lovely end, as you see the sun rise. Johan |
