Haunted by the shouts of pain Staring through the stinking smoke Surrounded by a reddened stream To the eye, he stands alone. Once tender fingers tightly grip An empty cartridge, his sole companion But his mind wanders off. It hunts for the milder memories It searches the blissful past Where his soul seeks refuge; And dwells in the lively eyes Of an innocent, playful dame- His pain, she doesn't reduce. Rising above the smell of blood, Her milky scent tickles his nose, His ears feast on her mumbling tunes While his fingers dance. He snuggles under the memory He hides from the bitter truth. He does not hear nor feels, The stealthy calm The startled wind The sudden blast The thousand cries The rumble above drowns the groan below. On his last moment on earth He perceives a divine sight- A man, a woman and a loving child Embraced with joyous hearts.. A tear of happiness rolls down his cheek Home At Last! |

This is such a sad write, dear Minoli, but the final vision brings a moment of comfort, in a single tear ... to him. Far too often we assist to such scenes. I can't but repeat: may the world awaken to love. Thank you for this significant offering. Love, Margherita |
