 * * * The correct answer * * * She looked out for him, her heart bursting with love. Before the ocean of impermanence was going to swallow the flood of her certainty, she wanted him to know. With a tremor inside she let the words fall from her lips aiming straight at his heart. “I love you”! In his eyes she detected a spark of recognition and a distant smile as he quickly uttered “thank you”! A single tear hung in her eyelashes. It held both love and sorrow, for she knew that the correct answer would have been “I love you too!” * * * [This message has been edited by Margherita (06-29-2009 12:38 PM).] |

Sometimes "thank you" just isn't enough but it's good that he knows. Insightful write, dear Margherita. One can cry for the "she" and also for the "he" because the turn-away could in the end be disastrous. Who knows really? Hugs Helen |

Oh, Margherita, I once got a "Thank you" when I bared my soul to a man I was falling in love with. He was rather a stiff Brit but I eventually warmed him up and when he finally said "I love you" to me, I said "Thank you" ~ and we both cracked up laughing! The correct answer rests in silence, of course love knows how to read them. Your poetry on the feeling is beyond phisical world but works on a spiritual level. clever talks delay friendship! |

Margherita, this is a sweet piece. I think "ocean" and "flood" have been used a bit too much, and "flood" doesn't bring a lovely image to mind, I tend to think more of flood the ugly disaster. Beyond the first stanza, the visuals are subtle but vivid, I like the "eyelashes." Thanks for sharing. Mark |

Yes, dear Sue, when we feel not corresponded a little sadness does creep in no doubt. Thank you so much for your loving comment. Thank you, dear Helen, you are right, how do we know really. Some may say "thank you" and still mean "me too", but they somehow fear to say it as they feel too much exposure makes them vulnerable. Yes, dear D., this is surely true, totally unconditional love is the noblest feeling we can have. But I believe we love to hear the answer we long to hear, maybe even subconsciously. Thank you for visiting and commenting so kindly. Dear Kacy, thank you, yes it's indeed heart talk, on soul level probably we know how things are ... I guess for him it wss the correct answer and for her it revealed the truth for you it uncovered your understanding of the human heart and for us it was a powerful little poem that drew mwemories from long ago surrounding those three words Excellent, dear poet Liz |

This is poignant. It's hard to put ourselves out there like that - and, if he couldn't say he loved her back, he handled it beautifully. The power of "I love you" and the gracious "Thank you" leave me hope that they will share friendship and a love that builds. Perhaps not the love she desires now, but a love that lasts through the tears. I love you, Margherita. Alison |
