LASER SURGERY 12 November 2000 No, I will not have my feelings removed for my pain is me and life is misery and joy is but a momentary reprieve. I will not have my feelings removed though my tears block my nose and my head thunders and my limbs are withered; though I put my fingers in my ears when friends recount stories I will not hear; though I turn off the television when I cannot face reality; though I often wonder if I could do my bit for disaster victims; though I know I stand alone; though I repeatedly try to do what is right though it is unnoticed, unappreciated, or misinterpreted; though I do not understand the selfishness, thoughtlessness and cruelty of the human race. No, I will not have my feelings removed for my pain is me and life is misery and joy is but a momentary reprieve. I will not have my feelings removed for I will not give up my moments and I will make and live and remember and wallow in my moments of birdsong and Chopin sonatas and Wordsworth and Longfellow and leaf-fringed sunsets and the bonding gaze of my horse and cat and I will wash my feelings in my glorious moments. No, I will not have my feelings removed. Owl |

If your feelings were removed, you would be gone. You are feelings - beautiful, sensitive, loving, kind, caring feelings. They wrap around you and reach out to each of us. I love you for sharing those feelings, Diana. Love, Alison |

Well, dear Diana, you surely must have known that the title would have caught my eye! Without our feelings ~ we ain't livin'! Be they good, bad, or indifferent. It's all part of the human experience. Mind you, I too. turn off the TV and go on a news fast "when I cannot face reality". But then, like yourself, I have pangs of guilt as to what I could be doing to change things. Those glorious things that you mentioned certainly do have a way of adding sweetness to one's life and neutralizing the sour! Enjoyed reading your thoughts. Love & a warm hug, Linda |

To feel is to live whether joyful or sorrow filled The only choice is too cut off, for some they just do to numb too much pain. I guess it is a personal choice. Thanks for writing this today. Very thought provoking |

OwlSA, I just wrote a long reply but as I sometimes get too wordy I cut it out. So all I will say is, thank you. We all suffer in one way or another. And usually it is tied to love or greed. Thank you for this.It serves as a reminder. latearrival |

May the joy gain room and misery lose some! But meanwhile you are just perfect. We are lucky to witness your feelings, dear Diana! This poem speaks to me with the voice of your beautiful heart. I especially love your conclusion: I will not have my feelings removed for I will not give up my moments and I will make and live and remember and wallow in my moments of birdsong and Chopin sonatas and Wordsworth and Longfellow and leaf-fringed sunsets and the bonding gaze of my horse and cat and I will wash my feelings in my glorious moments. Powerful! Love and hugs, dear keeper of emotions! Margherita |

Sometimes life is hard for the very sensitive but perhaps we feel greater joy in the wonderful things life has to offer as well. Ida |

Hello Owl, this is a warm sincerity about things that go wrong and it seems to me that you stand right and strong in front of misery, I love the verses specially when you write No, I will not have my feelings removed for my pain is me and life is misery and joy is but a momentary reprieve thanks a lot for the convincing and beautiful work. yann |

Ida, you are so right – and the tears (of sadness and joy) are worth it, I believe. Thank you for your kind comment, Arana. Whilst I think that the name Rachael Fuchsberger is an exciting name, I think that Arana Darkwolf is even more so. Arana is a pretty name – and I am animal-crazy, and wolves have a special excitement for me, especially as we don’t get wolves in South Africa. I like being an owl, but I think it must be wonderful to be a wolf! Yann, thank you for your very heart-warming comments. You always say such lovely things that make us feel so good. Owl |

You have caught the moment and the lifetime of thoughts flashing vividly. When you have uttered,"for my pain is me"; it becomes the whisper of wind which I can listen here in India. God be with my brave Diana. A wise poet. clever talks delay friendship! |

I learned a long time ago, that feelings are there for a reason. When I can't or don't want to face reality, I have a tendancy to withdraw from the world into my on little cacoon. I know, it's not a good thing to do. I could very easily become a recluse. So, I have to really push myself to get out. |

Thank you, Kushal. Pain is often another side of happiness. I have ached for 8 years now for the loss of my darling, horse Flicka, but that is because of the absolute wonder of God’s gift of Flicka to me for 20½ years of being his, and knowing him for 2 years before that. I talk to him every day in conversations beyond the grave and feel the reply in the warmth of his love and his sky messages, and I look at the photos of him in my room and feel his kind eye (as the saying goes, but, smiles, BOTH his eyes were kind) on me and enjoy his horse blanket on my bed, and remember how smart and cuddly he looked in it every winter. So, yes, God has listened to you and is with me every moment of every day. May He be with you too. Very true, Bobby, but it is much better if we DO realise it. Thanks for reading. Sue, I am glad that you do push to get yourself out when you feel like withdrawing. Feelings are healthy and promote health too. Smiles. Owl |
