I gave it up as if it were never mine to start with Something that had no effect, no influence whatsoever But it was obvious, the toll it took, the back roads I had to travel Just in an attempt to run, to hide So I would never have to hurt myself again I let temptation go in society's eyes While I watched every last one of them deny it ever existed Questioning how they could lack the feeling That I've lived my whole life to forget I stand by, idle, like the monitor inside my head Displaying pictures of things I've seen, impressions I've made I took my eyes off the screen Turned away and stared into the empty space that resided inside the room This is all I left myself with When ignorance forced it's way out of my brain And I saw more corruption In the channels that I flipped through Than I had seen in the world itself Judgmental voices choked the life out of me About how I was so stupid to think I could fight this for a second The one battle I could never win, the reason I've been alone so long Because the only thing that fills my head Is the static Of what I refuse to believe has become humanity's lifestyle Emily Shives 12/20/09 |

I can feel an empty ache in reading this that reminds me of myself in days gone by. Truly takes me back to a time and place vividly. |
