I've always wondered about those
young sophisticates who always
have the right words
  know this from that
and
    have it all together...
They say it's a gift.

Whoever "they" are
    and
Whatever "it" is

And this is I...
always talking out of turn
out of time
and
out of that place
where thoughts are as clear as bells

Caring more for the truth
than
for the appearance of it.
I've been told
I look too closely
  stand too strong
and
    want too much...
They say it's a flaw

But then -
"they" say a lot
     and at the same time...
nothing at all

No insult meant -
     or so I'm told
It's only to help me fit in.
But into what...
     I'll never know

So I wonder -
Is it that their happiness is contagious
    or
that their misery is lonely...

But until I'm sure -
    then
This is I
  as I ever was...
     Respectfully

If I don't say it...who will?

Continue to march to the beat of your own drum! Who wants to be like 'them'! You're unique and special! ~ and I like you! This poem is so refreshing, honest, and real. Honestly, I think most of us feel like the proverbial square peg in a round hole! I actually like being a bit of a square! lol

Sending BIG (((HUG))) your way!

Thank you Linda!  Today was one of THOSE days.  You know - everything goes wrong, and you can't do anything right...  So, I've decided to just keep doing left!

That was amazing.
I'm struggling with that question as I read it.

Shalisadefa - thank you for reading and for taking the time to comment - it means a lot.

SlowlyFallAway - thanks for your very kind words!!  I too have been turning these questions in my mind.  For so long, in fact that it had to use it.

2islander2 - Thanks for stopping by!  I appreciate your comments.

I like it.  Reminds me (again) I am not alone.  The portion I like and remember is "Caring more for the truth than for the appearance of it".

No "Flaw" seen  here at all.  "They" are  not  listening. you are playing the game correctly. I just know you have some very good friends who understand you or  want to. If not, you have most of the PIP board on your side. Best to you, latearrival

Paul - Aww, gee - thanks!!

Latearrival - you're right, there are those who love me as I am and those who don't...  Either way, " I am what I am - and that's all I am".  Thank you!

this is an amazing, clear work and I wish I had written it. it flows like water and speaks in an unconstrained voice.
