"Crossroads" The crossroads loom before me But which path should I take? For one way leads to happiness, The other, a mistake But this is not the first time I've met with such a choice And down both roads I've traveled, once Before I heard your voice The first is one of gladness A path that's straight and true But none of that means anything Without the joy of you The second one is harder And riddled with remorse And full of pains from days gone by A long and hurtful course Yet here I stand before them As once I stood before When I was but a weeping child So world-weary and sore Perhaps I'll choose the easy And travel it alone And cast aside these heavy sins For which I must atone Perhaps I'll choose the harder To suffer all the way Until I've paid my debt to Fate Some far-off, distant day But still you'll stand beside me No matter which I choose Not caring what I stand to gain, Or what I'm sure to lose July 30, 2009 AMdG "My candle burns at both ends; it will not last the night; but ah, my foes, and oh, my friends--it gives a lovely light!" -Edna St. Vincent Millay |
