Until You Look Inside

My wife is not a raving beauty.
And she gets under people’s skin at times, even mine.
She’s totally honest
and the way she speaks at times,
seems angry when she’s not,
or she says things that others take incorrectly,
don’t understand;
and sometimes I have to walk away
and leave her standing on her own,
for her sake, and mine.

But I don’t love her for what she is sometimes perceived.
I love her for whom I know her to be,
hard as that sometimes is,
after all these years.
But then she say’s something,
does something,
not necessarily to or for me,
that opens that window again,
lets the shine I married in
and the glory of who she is
touches my heart all over again.

My wife is not a raving beauty –
nor am I,
but we made a comment to love one another,
not just on the day we married,
for life!. . .
no matter how time changed us,
and time, circumstance, does,
change us;
sometimes it forces us to look really deep
to see the real ‘self’
overtopped by living
in the everyday world;
and sometime we just have to remember
where we started,
what we’ve weathered - to get this far;
sometimes we just have to accept
a certain amount of change,
because living in itself is change.

My wife is not a raving beauty –
until you look inside;
and I believe – she thinks the same of me.

You are a very wise man Jimmy, you have learned many wise things in your marriage

and learnt by them. You have also put them into practise and that is why you are still

married to the same lady today. Congratulations my friend you have done well

Jimmy,

I cannot express how much I appreciate this poem.  It is a keeper and opens a door to my heart that I was trying to hammer closed.  It can also apply to the floundering relationship that I have with my sister- and I am keeping this poem close.

Love,
Alison

You brought tears to this ole biddy's eyes, my friend... There may not be anyone out there who'll ever see me this way... but if there is?? *S* I'll spend my life knowing how blessed I am. *S*

Jimmy, I believe that your ability to see with your heart and soul, makes you the extraordinary poet that you are. Your poetry truly touches your readers.

God bless both you and your beloved wife!

Love and a big hug!

Yes, you captured true love very well here.
Thank you for the look inside, because there is where beauty and love can be found.

Jimmy, my friend, (and I am so proud to call you that) you have made my day with this! I can't believe I missed it for 4 days! I need some glasses (or maybe not, considering this poem)

You are a true blessing, not only to me but to everyone here that reads you, and especially to your beautiful wife.

I wish I could give ya a bear hug!
