In New Zealand Amongst the Ancient Trees

In my springtime I loved
when it was new
and the weather report
promised laughter in the afternoon

Again in the summer
when it was warm
and I basked in it’s sun
in reflective delight

I loved in my autumn
wrapped in it’s multi coloured coat
ignoring the weatherman’s prediction
that the wind would change

Now in my winter
when the newness and warmth
are needed most
it’s a foul wind that blows
and I feel a chill in looking back
knowing that I will follow my sorrow

It is a fine poem, tp!  It reminded me of this -

"The weatherman

With decorous aplomb he delivers the news
to a nation unmoved by repetitive tales.
His forecast of cold; one degree up, minus a few,
how shrewd, how astute, how insightful perhaps,
like a prophet divines to the emotionally wise.

Time’s brought it again, this winter I’ve known,
but the cold passes by like birds in full flight
to herald in spring and the seeding again
of new life from old and from the dark, light.

How artful the plan, how devious, bad,
to bring in the cold to the warmth of my home
but I move to the right, blank out the screen,
and the weatherman fades back into his cage.

He’ll stay there, I guess, for a decade or two,
but I picture him there so suave, debonair,
and cool, oh, so cool dressed casual, no tie,
in winter’s spotlight that highlights a lie.

‘Tis summer, my friends, the summer of life,
and I’ve promised myself no shivers tonight!'

Just remember that it's only winter if we think it is -

Helen
