        Roots of Stone

In this place of endless hills
and frost-tipped pines
awash in autumn moonlight,
under a deepening sky of
  dancing stars
the cool evening wind
sings to the lonely heart
and careworn spirit
of fine dreams passing
through an ever-drifting life,
and all that is far larger
than self, place, and time.
Though swift the seasons
  past dim recall...
hope and love remain.

Yo Secondhanddreampoet,

This poem works well.  Hope is always the last thing to go, and of course love always remains strong.

I'd like to know where you are that you see this. I can't seem to find it around here.

I often write of the fine Appalachians [Eagles Mere (lake of Eagles) PA; etc.]
and of the grand Caledonians (N.W. Scotland) ... millions of years ago in
"Deep-Time" (when there was no intervening "Atlantic" ocean) ... those
mountain ranges were actually one and the same!

"the cool evening wind

~ Oh, yes! It can ~ and does... You truly do have the soul of a poet. Your poetry speaks to me on such a deep level.

"Though swift the seasons

hope and love remain."

"hope and love remain"

How lovely is that thought, Bruce!  Even after the imagery of the grand mountains and the changing seasons, yes....they remain, and your words say it so well.

Yes, your gaze and your soul have captured the infinite here and as a reward for your spirit you became deeply conscious of love and hope.

This is truly awesome, dear Bruce.

Love,
Margherita

secondhanddreampoet:  Incurable Romanticism is not a bad thing.  A very nicely constructed, contemplative piece here, that brings (as it should) the natural world together with the feelings of the poet.  Beautiful result.

Bruce,

I love where you take me - and I love that you do share the sensitivity of you.  I am glad, so glad, you came back.

Such gritty, stoical words, but sometimes far off in dream-trance...i like the descriptions, seen through the eyes of a world weary soul, but ultimately optimistic....

Thank you..enjoyed reading this poem...
