What do you do when your hero proves human?

Is he not the man I believed him to be
Perhaps I created who I wanted to see

Overwhelming heaviness consumes my heart
Conflicting revelations, I'm falling apart

I'm finding it harder to trust in your word
An inward battle, thoughts unwilling to purge

You, Dad, my EVERYTHING
The man I needed you to be

You... so sweet, so genuine; me and my impossible needs
Yet effortlessly it's the impossible that for me, you've always found a way to defeat

And for me, never giving up, continually striving to be
The very best Daddy, in whom I could always believe

Did I put too much pressure on your heart and your soul?
Always expecting, "Daddy please save me; you're my one, you're my all..."

Perhaps this anxiety lies within my own soul
Is it you in whom I've lost faith, or in myself... forever tormented, never feeling whole

I am lost and I'm hurting; Confused and unsure

I miss most how I looked at you,
And this incredible man would emerge

But the thing I miss most, more than anything at all
Is the ability to trust so blindly, completely without fault

Innocence... forever lost.

I pretty much re-wrote this one just now, didn't really like how it was.

Anyhow, I would love to read your poem Just a Man, if you have a copy of it still. Thanks!

Dixie speaks truth
all heroes are only humans
and you say that in this line

"I miss most how I looked at you,"

well done

therightside - at times we put someone on a pedestal, and perhaps they really don't belong there, nice write...
