                 The Wake

A lady who was in her back yard one day
Heard a little girl who was crying next door,
Looking over the fence to see what was wrong,
A very sad little lassie she saw.

What is the matter the kind lady said,
I’m quite sure there’s no need to cry,
The little girl said , it’s my faithful old dog,
I’m so afraid that he’s going to die.

I don't think that he will pass away yet,
A few more years I’m sure he will make,
But when he dies, please, it’s unwise to fret
For I’m sure your parents will give him a wake.

They will invite all your own little friends,
There’ll be ice-cream and drinks by the score,
It’ll be a real happy party for everyone there
And the wake you will surely adore.

The little girl brightened , her crying then stopped,
A thoughtful expression soon crossed her small brow,
She looked at the lady and this question she asked,
Do you think it possible that we kill him now.

Lindsay

Oh la la, Lindsay you are an artist and bring so muich fun, this is damned good and your story contains so much irony, I like this little girl and I hate her, thanks for the very beautiful poem and the fun.

Noooooooo, she can't have said that!! You must be kidding, ice-cream in change of her beloved pet ... noooooooooo. Of course even tender hearts have their wicked moments, I fear!!

Well written, as usual, dear Lindsay!
