He'd made his declaration
Asked her to be his wife
Knowing they'd face some hard times
Knowing she was his life
But he could see the questions
That she could not dismiss
Looking into her blue eyes
He answered them with this:

"Starting at forever
And adding fifty years
We will be together
Through laughter
And through tears
You are all I want
And all I'll ever need
We will make it, darling
This love will succeed"

They loved each other fiercely
Started a family
She'd bathe the kids each evening
He'd bounce them on his knee
But then the doctor told them
They didn't have much time
Fearing that she would leave him
He whispered "My love, I'm

Starting at forever
And adding fifty years
We will be together
Through laughter
And through tears
You are all I want
And all I'll ever need
We will make it, darling
This love will succeed"

But love cannot stop cancer
And on a winter's night
Clasping close her lover's hand
She lost her valiant fight
Home seemed so bleak and empty
Without his loving bride
Then he whispered a soft prayer
A child tucked at each side

"Starting at forever
And adding fifty years
I swear I will weather
Even these bitter tears
You are all I want
And all I'll ever need
Help me to be strong, darling
So our kids will succeed"

Beautiful Ruth ... the sentiments throughout, the carry forward of verse and the lesson that we must carry on, even in the face of loss.  Very nicely written.

Best wishes and hugs,
/Kit

Dear Ruth that was a real delight to read
Although sad it was a very poignant well

written poem, I think one of your best.
Love and a big hug.

This is heartbreaking, yet ever so beautifully written, dear Ruth!

One of the saddest events that can happen is when children lose a parent. You have rendered this with delicacy and mastery.

Love,

This has to be one of your very best no matter how sad.  It reminded me of every single loss I felt and the ache that takes over your very soul until acceptance arrives.

By the way, the response you left of Helen's poem could easily be a second choice of mine.  I am walking around here calling myself a Phoenix today.

Happy Holidays to you and yours.
