"Shed A Tear" Turbulant western winds blow Across the low desert plane Melting the winter snow In the high Sierra range Then Mule Deer move around Into many moister places As the migrating herd is found In the western wild it embraces There once ran along side Of that wild western herd An animal with much pride That disappeared without word They once roamed far and wide ‘Twas the mighty Buffalo herd Crushing American Indian's pride ‘Twas slaughter of them that incurred Indians and Buffalo lived as one Along side herds of Mule Deer Roaming the range under the Sun For their loss we shed many a tear by Poetal AL Inmon |

quote: Thank you for this extremely touching poem, lest we forget!! Unless we return to the respectful treatment of Nature and all living beings, as was the wise habit of American Indians, we shall lose the battle for life ... It's that simple. Ignorance of the laws of Nature is the real threat ... May the Native spirits come to life again! Love, Margherita ![]() |

Poetal - We are Man and therefore will destroy to extinction whatever feeds our gluttony of consumption until it's gone. Then we'll find a good reason why we did it so we may justify doing it again. The buffalo didn't have a chance as are other species on this planet that sooner or later will unfortunately run into us. Thanks Poetal for a pivotal poetic piece that stands as an insightful warning. It's enough to make ya cry or at least shed a tear." Namyh |

I am originally from Winnipeg,Manitoba where the buffalo is the symbol for that province in Canada. They roamed free until as your American Buffalo, man has almost made them extinct here too. I sympathize with this heartfelt write. |

A strong and heartbreaking piece of art, AL. Your word usage and structure here gives the work the depth, beauty, and grandeur of the loss it laments. Thank you Jim "We are stardust: we are golden: and we've got to get ourselves back to the garden." --Joni Mitchell "Woodstock" |
