Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

0 posted 2009-11-10 01:05 AM

When I was young I felt a need,
longed for the day when I could read.
I sorted books as if to gauge
that magic time I’d come of age
to fly out from a silent cage,
and join the letters on a page.
    Desire could not be assuaged;
it sparked an ember, born to rage
until I sat on center stage
to read as if I were a sage.
There came a day when I was freed
and now I spread the reading seed.

This was wonderful....wish some of my fellow friends would read somethings-_- But I like this alot, I really like to read alot, I get so absorbed in it...that I forget that my friend was next to me.

I am in awe of your wit and charm. As a child we all meditate on the future and what we all may end up being. Reminds me of the song Kay sa raw sa raw what ever will be will be.

Thanks kindly for the great read.

That workshop has certainly done wonders for your expertise my friend. Your rhyme

and rhythm leaves little to be desired.
Balladeer has taught you well. Love

great 'write' !! ...
on the very finest of 'seeds' to spread!

Thomas Jefferson once wrote to my ancestor,
"I cannot live without books!" ...

I hope that they shall not 'vanish' as some of
the hyper-enamored of digital electronic media
and the internet suggest.

            College Library
           (an ‘impression’)

Wisps of sunlight catch a few books
  by surprise...
while the rest laugh and point from
  dim pigeon-holes
at the foolish ‘human-ants’ that seek
to tear at their hearts...
  (so young...so naïve!)
They contain the thoughts, the hopes,
  the fears...
the very souls of countless minds...
  that are no more...
some great...some small;
but, the books wear all their names
with silent dignity...unspoken elegies
  to the dead.
To hold the wisdom of the ages
  is their destiny...
how honorable a fate!.....
Mankind has no greater treasure
  to preserve...
and no greater treasury!......

Alison - Lovely and what a good message.  It would appear that our schools here do not spread the reading seed nearly enough judging by the spelling that I see not to mention the pronunciation - oh, and the punctuation.

Awesome! Brings me back to sitting in my mom's lap trying to read along. I also forgot how great a talent it is to not only be able to read, but to comrehend. I think this is a great piece to remind us of what we should not take for granted

It's wonderful that you share the gift of reading with others and your wonderful use of rhyme here did also remind me as well when the gift was first shared with me. Thank you.

Thank you and, as always, God bless,

I liked this lots. I read it three times.

I love my dog, and my truck. It's that simple, really.

Bruce,

Thank you and I so agree.  A lady was trying to sell me on the merits of a Kindle last time I flew. Sorry - I never want one.  I don't care how conveninent they are.  Books may not be convenient all the time, but they are books!  Does everything have to be convenient!  Sorry - you got me on a rant here.

Thank you again,
A

-

Helen,

Yes, I know.  I have typo's when I write here because I type too danged fast sometimes.  However, I do know grammar ... and, sadly, many not only do not want to learn it, they wear bad grammar like some badge of honor.  Ignorance does not make art.  Anyway, now everyone is going to scrutinize my writing.

I know what you mean though and thank you.

Alison

-

Mas184,

Thank you.  You shared a lovely memory.  Thank you for that gift.

Alison

-

Bob,

Thank you.  I really appreciate you taking the time to stop and write a comment to me.  Any use of rhyme -- well, that's the efforts of my dear friend, Balladeer, showing.  He has taught me a lot.

suthern,

My new addiction is Barnes and Noble.  It came to town a year or so ago - and, dang, I love that store.

Paul, my friend -

Thanks for reading once, twice and even three is nice!  Thank you, oh sculpted one!

Dear Alison,
Yesterday, I became fabulously wealthy.
Yes, I found an old textbook loaded with poetry and short stories in a junk shop.
This book is about 4 inches thick!
Think of all the journies I will take, all for the grand price of $2.
