I saw a girl
that resembled my own

similar hair
similar frame

body movements
similar same

familiar voice
familiar frame

but when I looked into her eyes
when I looked into her eyes
she wasn't there

the girl I know
the girl with the green eyed broken smile stare

wasn't there

the girl that writes to me
the girl that calls me hun
the girl that calls me Romeo

wasn't there
wasn't there

recognized
familiarized

wasn't there
wasn't there

and I saw him
the one with the girl
that was a stranger

empty
empty

black eyes, black hair, black beard
black as coal

only there
only there

not for the songs
but only for the tail
that was there

with a coal eyed black eyed
stare

show stopped, show dropped, show dropped, to my request, to my song, my song, my song, living breathing in between, in between, in between the lines

the story goes
the story goes
the road goes

to this
to me
the man with God in I-tal-i-an
shoes
the man with the style like Ce-za-nne

and this girl
no matter where she goes
she's still

all alone

got her hair done

all alone

wearing tight blue jeans

all alone

could hardly breathe

all alone

her mother is
still in heaven
looking good, looking down

Daddy says they'll meet again

while their daughter is

all alone

good Lord knows
good Lord knows
good Lord knows there's only one road into heaven

but the girl is here
shedding alcohol tears
and mascara smears

and I can't change her mind
I can't change her mind

while I'm living under these stones
I use remove I use
lifting these heavy chest stones

watching her drive away
there she goes
there she goes
under the moonlight

all alone

no matter who she's with
she's all alone

I'm building my own bridge
and she's all alone
while I'm building a bridge
that's all my own

I find my way
I found my way

I found my way over the bridge

I'm home

and she's out there
she's out there with him

she's the one out there
all alone

A poignant write. There isn't much more one can do than be there if the 'out there alone' one returns seeking solace.
