"In my Shoes" I remember the days of the drug haze cocaine craze and there was God sitting by my side through all the hopes joys and despairs Keeping me safe Keeping my health and heart under wraps walking in bars sitting drinking frequent visits to the bathroom I would always come across a friendly face a conversation turned ministry for someone in someplace helping them see the light in their troubles some said and some thanked saying to me, "You've changed my life!" the stories, these strangers would tell unexpected, a high, drunk, father confessor was I and lo when low I would hear a voice a message of grace the voice of an angel coming from a meth addict's face but the drama became too much then back when the cops tried to put me away the doctors released me I was set free miraculously friends were lying in the hospital in a coma O.D.'d dropped off after home-made shower resuscitations failed discarded at the emergency room door just a heaped body abandoned cold on the floor I tried to help but they/he found their way back there again and again friends came and friends went near the end I helped some, showing them a way out and in all those days now long gone, you see God was right there using me for ministry every step of the way now I see him in my hand stitched Italian made leather shoes just as true back then as it is today I like how my shoes look but more so... I like the way they make me walk in my path now... and in the paths I took. Can't you see in my shoes that God is my friend, too (inspired by Bob Schneider's song: "God is my friend") [This message has been edited by martiniat8 (11-03-2009 12:05 AM).] |

Amazing. Never heard the song, but I'm sure it was well portrayed in this poem. |
