Dear Daddy, Today I sat down to write you a letter but it's been so long since we last spoke that I didn't know what to say We never needed words before... Of course I remember a love that was quiet and sure How you loved...how I trusted you What words speak more clearly than that Now seated at my desk accompanied only by hollow silence I cry In the past our silences were soothing and loving filled with compassion and understanding a quickness to forgive...the chance to be forgiven But now, as I sit staring at this blank page the silence is more than I can bear So I cry - for us, for what could have been for what should have been... and for what is I search for the words that will erase the past needing to hear, have done, or have said that one thing that will take us back Make it all right again But in my heart I know some things once said - can never be unsaid some things once done - can never be undone and some places once gone - can never be returned Today I sat down to write you a letter and all I could do was cry It's been so long since we last spoke I didn't know what to say So only tears filled the page If I don't say it...who will? |

So I cry - for us, for what could have been for what should have been... and for what is So poignant, and true for many of us. I think we cry for what could have been, but never was. Very well done. |

I cry for my Daddy... but it helps that I have very few regrets... we had time and had talks and I did the best I could. The story's a lot different for my Mother... these words resonate deeply: So I cry - for us, for what could have been for what should have been... and for what is This is a wonderful, painful write... words can't be unsaid and actions can't be undone... but forgiveness is always possible. |

I'd send him this poem. Oh and your picture - I'd send him that too if he doesn't have it. This poem is a keeper for any daughters who have had issues with their fathers - unresolved issues. You speak to a hole in my heart. Alison |

Beautiful piece, MorningStar. I am so glad that this is not an echo of the relationship I have with my three daughters. Very poignant, and well crafted. You have the art! Jim "We are stardust: we are golden: and we've got to get ourselves back to the garden." --Joni Mitchell "Woodstock" |

Thanks everyone! This was really, REALLY hard to write, so thank you so much for the support. If I don't say it...who will? |

Let the page dry out, and write him a letter. Fathers like that sort of thing. This was touching. I know the feeling. I'm the same way with my mother. I love my dog, and my truck. It's that simple, really. |

This is beautiful and poignant. Write to him, and perhaps include this poem. |

Many will relate to the poignancy of you well-written poem. A mass of knotted thread can never return, undamaged, to the reel; but it can be untangled. |

Paul & Kindred - thank you both for the support. In this area it is especially appreciated, since this is a very tender subject for me. Osprey - what an encouraging sentiment. Your words did my heart good. Thank you! If I don't say it...who will? |
