Note:  Chandni Chowk is an ancient bazaar in the heart of old Delhi.

A cornucopia of scents assail:
puris frying in hot oil,
rotting garbage,
incense and flowers,
exhaust fumes and hot metal,
beedi smoke,
and the unmistakable presence
of a public convenience.

From the Jama Masjid, the mullah
reiterates, for the third time,
his summons to the faithful.
A legless beggar wheels by:
did the treasure he stole from angry gods
warrant this Promethean reward?
Temple bells ring,
and the crowds surge unceasing.

Psychedelic visions appear:
Toby jugs that live,
saffron headware crowns,
shading eyes that view
far different horizons.
Ancient gods walk the land,
indifferent to the caste
of their weary avatars.

Pondering, in the shadow
of the Red Fort,
the hubris of those who sought
to civilize the land
where the Bo-shaded Gautama
attained Nirvana long ago:
where a lover's tribute became
a wonder of the world.

Sutra 6: If your Path seems to be sprinkled with shards of glass, you should examine each shard to ensure it is not a diamond.

Beautiful expose of what IS.
Some of those 'bazaar scents' are overpowering.
I'm loving your travel/social commentaries, but especially your POV.

It takes months to get that smell out of your clothes and hair but at the time, it's sure interesting to be in the thick of it.  Enjoyed this walk.

Midnitesun:  Glad to have you along. In my Reality, personal POV is all I have to go by.  Granted, I try to view Reality from 13 degrees off normal.  More to follow.
DS: I avoid WalMart like I avoid the bubonic plague and the Spanish Inquisition.  It is just wrong on so many levels.  The song may be ended, DS, but oh! that melody that remains.
AW:  Thank you for the welcome.  It feels right to be here.
Mysteria:  Today I shall take you on "The Cinnamon Gardens Commute."
Namaste, all, and
Peace
