When winds blow this hard and sun sets just right, or sometimes cold champagne with the Chinese dish you liked best when chicken was tender and broccoli had bight, I remember soft nights and lightning when you held on tight; midnight always left your thinking mind behind in places where denial lives in prayer, where emperors' new clothes are badly stained but no one seems to care, where tigers are sleeping in promises, where darkness is described as the new morn, where neon lights mean clamping eyes shut, when distractions are a way of life, wondering why rooms cost so much when paint is peeling when pipes run rust, and a railroad crossing has to be denied like a cowboy in the ally trying to make his nut. The wheel of life turns as it must; we will meet again on down the road. ©2009 by icebox |
