The Christmas Lantern
<Christmas Lantern

He took it from the hook,
Where it hung to give us light,
A simple little lantern,
Daddy filled with oil each night,

He bundled up to face the cold,
And opened up the door,
He headed out in to the dark,
As snow blew across the floor,

He told us it was important,
That we remember on this day,
All we have and how blessed we are,
When the door closed, we knelt to pray.

The lantern disappeared in the DISTANCE,
As daddy went into the storm,
We gathered around the stone fireplace,
And all snuggled close to keep warm,

It seemed like hours, that he was gone,
Then the door swung open wide,
And daddy stood there with a little pine tree,
We ran to hug his legs, as he came inside,

We stood it by the window,
And decorated it with ribbons and bows,
Daddy placed that old lantern on the top,
And we smiled at the warmth of its glow,

Memories of those holidays while growing up,
Each year about this time, return,
And I will always remember, the flickering flame,
Of that wonderful Christmas Lantern.

The answer is always NO, Until the question is asked.

What a beautiful way to wait! *S* I find myself dreading the holidays... don't think I would if they could be like this! *S*

What a lovely way to enjoy the thought of Christmas Tracey, it's a memory that will stay with you forever. Great poem my friend.
In the first verse Id change the word to each instead of every. I hope you don't mind me saying that. Take care.
